Yu Darvish was wild in his second Cactus League start Tuesday, walking four while also allowing three hits and two runs over three innings of work against the Indians.
He did strike out three. The outing could have been worse, but Michael Brantley and Asdrubal Cabrera, who Darvish walked in succession to kick off the game, were both thrown out stealing. It's not an ideal showing, but obviously it's hardly anything to worry about, as Darvish was superb in his first spring start.

Yu Darvish was terrific in his Cactus League debut Wednesday, tossing two shutout innings while allowing two hits, walking no one and striking out three against the Padres' split-squad.
Darvish allowed doubles to Orlando Hudson in the first and Will Venable in the second, but he was able to pitch around them by getting punchouts to end each inning. His fastball sat mostly in the low-90s but touched the mid-90s, and he showed a sharp slider in an impressive first outing in the states. The Japanese import will have all eyes on him throughout the Rangers' camp.

According to MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan, Yu Darvish topped out at 96 mph and threw 11 out of 21 pitches for strikes in his first intrasquad game.
"I was very grateful, especially facing the top hitters," Darvish said. "I enjoyed that. But I wasn't quite happy with my mechanics. There are just some things I want to continue to polish, the quality of my fastball is not close." Darvish is scheduled to throw 35-40 pitches in his Cactus League debut Wednesday against the Padres.

The Rangers are considering using a six-man rotation to help ease Yu Darvish's transition to MLB.
The Rangers have legitimate spot starters in Scott Feldman and Alexi Ogando and will consider adding a six-man rotation at times during the regular season to allow Darvish extra rest. ''It will be a little different, both in terms of starts and the importance of getting quicker outs,'' GM Jon Daniels said. "Last year we did it in the second half of the season where we found extra rest. I can see us doing that a little earlier in the season." The Rangers are expected to put Darvish on the same training regimen as the rest of their pitchers, though Daniels emphasized that there will be allowances within the general framework of the schedule.

The Rangers will formally introduce Yu Darvish at a press conference Friday night in Texas.
Darvish agreed to a six-year, $60 million contract with the Rangers on Wednesday afternoon, about a month after the team put up a record $51,703,411 posting fee for his exclusive negotiating rights. The 25-year-old Japanese right-hander speaks a bit of English, so he may say some words at the 7 p.m. ET presser. He carries ace potential here in the states.

Yu Darvish must meet a "series of demanding performance clauses" to trigger his five-year opt-out, according to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
It was reported earlier that Darvish could opt out of his new six-year, $60 million contract after year five. But it's apparently not that simple. Full details of the deal should come to light at some point over the next few days. Darvish is going to be officially introduced at a press conference Friday at the Ballpark in Arlington.

Yu Darvish has headed back to Japan.
Darvish spent all of Tuesday and most of Wednesday visiting the Dallas-Forth Worth Metroplex and meeting with Rangers officials. It's not known if negotiations took place. The 25-year-old right-hander posted a 1.44 ERA and 276/36 K/BB ratio across 232 innings last year in Nippon Professional Baseball and is thought to be seeking a five-year, $75 million deal from Texas.

Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com hears that most expect the Rangers will eventually work out a contract with Japanese right-hander Yu Darvish.
"There's no reason to think this won't get done," one high-ranking baseball person told Heyman. "There's no reason to think this has to go to the deadline, either." Darvish is currently in the Dallas-Fort Worth area with his father for a visit with the Rangers, which is seen as a positive sign. The two sides have until January 18 to reach an agreement. The 25-year-old right-hander is believed to be seeking a five-year deal in the range of $75 million.
