Alonso received the first AL Player of the Week award of his career after hitting .409 (9-for-22) with a double, five home runs, 10 RBI and three walks in the six games between May 1-7, Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. "It's well-deserved, certainly, and it's not just the week," A's manager Bob Melvin said. "He's been doing that the whole year for us, so a nice little feather in his cap."
EDGE Analysis
Alonso has already tied the career-high nine homers he compiled with the Padres in 2012, following a spring in which he slashed .389/.500/.648 over 24 games. The veteran first baseman made tweaks to his swing in the offseason, and Melvin credits the 30-year-old's methodical daily routine in batting practice with his continued success. Alonso's RBI (24), OBP (.371) and slugging (.638) are all presently team bests,

Alonso went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 8-6 win over Detroit.
EDGE Analysis
After crushing two long balls Saturday night, the left-handed first baseman was back at it again. It was Alonso's fifth home run in the last six games, and he now has nine on the year, which tied his career high in 2012. He's now up to a slash line of .311/.386/.667 and has sacrificed contact (career-high 21.8 percent strikeout rate) for power and fly balls (career-high 49.2 percent fly-ball rate). While Alonso's HR/FB of 25.0 percent will come down drastically, it appears he'll be a more consistent source of power for fantasy owners in 2017. Selling high at this point wouldn't a bad idea.

Alonso went 2-for-4 with three RBI from a solo home run and two-run shot in Saturday's 6-5 win over the Tigers.
EDGE Analysis
Alonso is playing the role of a clean-up hitter to perfection despite not embodying that profile at any other point in his major-league career. His pair of round-trippers Saturday now put him just one behind the career-high nine he posted with the Padres in 2012 and give him four over the first five games of May. They also brought his line to .314/.392/.651, with the latter figure easily a career best.

Alonso went 2-for-4 with two RBI from a single and a double in Friday's 7-2 loss to the Tigers.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran first baseman started rolling at the plate in spring training and hasn't cooled off yet, as evidenced by a .305/.387/.585 line that includes six homers, just one less than he hit all of last season. Friday's effort marked his third multi-hit outing in the last four games, and he's now driven in five runs in the last three games. Alonso is a prominent presence on Oakland's offensive leaderboard as well, with his .305 average, 19 RBI and .387 OBP all serving as high-water marks on the team.

Alonso went 2-for-3 with a walk and a two-run home run in Wednesday's 7-4 loss to the Twins.
EDGE Analysis
He's now hitting .391 (9-for-23) over the last week with three homers and seven RBI, and Alonso's six home runs on the season already leaves him just one shy of last year's total. The 30-year-old made significant changes to his approach at the plate in the offseason, and so far those adjustments are paying huge dividends.

Alonso went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 9-1 loss to the Twins.
EDGE Analysis
After hitting seven homers in 156 games last season, Alonso already has five through 24 games in 2017 to go along with a strong .292/.363/.556 slash line. There have been bigger early-season success stories around the majors, but that doesn't make the 30-year-old's improvement as a power hitter any less dramatic.

Alonso is out of the lineup Sunday against the Astros.
EDGE Analysis
With a .351 on-base percentage, four homers and 14 RBI over 74 plate appearances this season, Alonso has been a key contributor for the Athletics, but that won't stop manager Bob Melvin from continuing to shield the first baseman against left-handed pitching. The righty-hitting Ryon Healy will draw the start at first base Sunday against Astros southpaw Dallas Keuchel.

Alonso went 1-for-3 with an RBI single and walk in Thursday's 2-1 loss to the Angels.
EDGE Analysis
Alonso plated Jed Lowrie in the fourth for Oakland's only run, and he and Lowrie were the only two Athletics to get on base more than once in what was a sparkling effort by Ricky Nolasco and four Angels relievers. The veteran first baseman has driven in four of the team's six runs over the last two nights and has hit safely in three of the last four games overall.

Alonso went 2-for-4 with three RBI from a two-run single and solo home run in Wednesday's 8-5 loss to the Angels.
EDGE Analysis
Alonso went down on strikes on his two other at-bats but continues to show off some impressive pop after hitting just seven home runs all of last season. The veteran first baseman has already gone deep four times in 2017 and is slugging a career-high .571 at the moment while also boasting a .926 OPS. Wednesday's game also marked Alonso's third multi-hit effort in the last six games.

Alonso is not in the lineup Saturday against the Mariners, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
After starting five of the last six games, Alonso will head to the bench Saturday, as the A's go with Ryon Healy at first base. Alonso registered two hits, including a solo homer, in Friday's win over Seattle, and he's now hitting .295 with 10 RBI on the young season.
