Harris has appeared in five games out of the Astros' bullpen this season, allowing just one run on five hits with a walk and six strikeouts over 6.1 innings.

Harris led Astros relievers in appearances last year with 68 while compiling a respectable 1.90 ERA and 8.62 K/9 in the process. The 31-year-old right-hander figures to get plenty of work again this season as part of the bridge to Ken Giles and Luke Gregerson.

Harris will pitch in both games of the Astros' upcoming trip to Mexico City against the Padres, Jose de Jesus Ortiz of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Harris got the final out of Saturday's game to pick up his second save of the season.

Luke Gregerson started the ninth inning protecting a 9-4 lead, but gave up three runs before Harris was forced to close things out. The middle reliever has an outstanding 1.88 ERA and 0.93 WHIP on the year, but don't expect him to fall into any more saves this season.

Astros manager A.J. Hinch lobbied AL All-Star manager Ned Yost in support of his players, including Harris, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. "I think Will Harris is an All-Star," Hinch said. "I know it's easier to go a closer, to go to guys who are pitching higher-leverage innings, but you're around our team -- and every team has their unsung hero -- but if you're around our team you see the situations he's pitched out of to keep us in games and help us win games. Regardless of not having saves on his resume, he's pitched at an All-Star level." Harris (4-1) has been one fo the most effective relief pitchers in the Majors this year, posting a 0.93 ERA and 0.75 WHIP in his first 33 appearances.

Harris struck out two and walked one over 1.2 scoreless innings of relief during Thursday's 6-5 loss at Detroit. While Harris lowered his ERA to 0.42 with the scoreless outing, he'll likely sit out Friday night's contest after tossing 42 pitches between appearances on Wednesday and Thursday for the Astros.

Harris issued a lead-off walk to Sam Fuld, but retired the next three batters he faced during a scoreless ninth inning in Wednesday's 6-1 win over the A's. Harris leads all Astros relievers who have made multiple appearances this season with a 0.45 ERA.

Harris' streak of 26 consecutive scoreless appearances came to an end Wednesday night after he gave up a solo home run to Carlos Peguero during Houston's 11-3 loss to Texas. Prior to Wednesday, Harris hadn't allowed a run in 28.2 innings dating back to August 19 of last year. Through 11 relief appearances for the Astros this season, he has a 0.60 ERA, 0.47 WHIP and 20:4 K:BB over 15 innings.

With a perfect frame Monday against the Padres, Harris has made 24 consecutive scoreless appearances, including eight for Houston this season. Harris' scoreless appearance streak dates back to August 19 and ranks as the second-longest active streak in the majors, trailing only Cincinnati's Aroldis Chapman (25 games). Not bad for a 30-year-old reliever who was claimed off waivers from Arizona last November.

Harris walked two and struck out three over 1.2 innings of relief Monday against the Mariners. Through five relief appearances, the 30-year-old right-hander carries a 0.00 ERA, 0.52 WHIP and 9:3 K:BB over 7.2 innings. Harris has only allowed one hit thus far - a single to Robinson Chirinos back on April 11.

Harris earned his first win of the season Sunday against the Rangers. Harris (1-0) pitched two scoreless frames of relief, fanning three without allowing a baserunner during the appearance. The 30-year-old right-hander has given up just one hit through five scoreless innings thus far with a 5:0 K:BB.
