Harris secured a spot on the Astros' Opening Day roster, Jose de Jesus Ortiz of the Houston Chronicle reports. In nine Grapefruit League appearances, Harris posted a 2.45 ERA and 5:2 K:BB over 11 innings. The 30-year-old right-hander carried a 10.86 K/9 last year, but how he performs in the opening weeks this season will determine his future with the Astros, as Josh Fields (groin) isn't expected to be on the DL past mid-April.

Harris was claimed off waivers Monday by the Astros, the Arizona Republic's Nick Piecoro reports. The 30-year-old right-handed reliever posted a 0.99 ERA in 45.2 innings at Triple-A and a 4.34 ERA in 29 innings with the Diamondbacks last season. Despite the large ERA against big league hitters, he also had a 29.2 percent K-rate, and has the upside to miss some bats in the later innings.

Harris pitched a scoreless 0.2 innings with a strikeout in the Diamondbacks' 7-6 loss to the Cardinals on Friday. Harris hasn't allowed a run in 16 straight appearances. He has a scoreless September going in 11 innings of work. He also has allowed a hit in just one of five appearances.

Harris was recalled from Triple-A Reno on Monday. Harris struggled in 13 games with the Diamondback this season, posting a 9.24 ERA, but has a glistening (0.99) ERA at Triple-A Reno. He will be given his third shot with the club this season, and will try to take advantage of the opportunity.

Harris entered the game with the D'Backs up 5-3, but he allowed five of the seven batters he faced to reach base, with Angel Pagan providing the knockout blow in the form of a three-run homer. Manager Kirk Gibson has used Harris as his primary right-handed setup man in the early going, but he seems likely to use J.J. Putz and Brad Ziegler more in the eighth inning going forward.

Athletics claimed RHP Will Harris off waivers from the Rockies; optioned him to Triple-A Sacramento. Harris was designated for assignment by the Rockies over the weekend. The 28-year-old had an 8.15 ERA over 20 relief appearances with Colorado last season, but has put up impressive numbers in the minors. Not a bad gamble to take.
