Sources tell Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com that the Blue Jays are pursuing Astros' left-hander Wandy Rodriguez.
Rodriguez signed a contract extension in January that guarantees him $10 million in 2012 and $13 million in 2013. Many teams have shied away in trade talks for the veteran lefty because his $13 club million option for 2014 becomes a player option in the event of a trade. The Astros likely won't get anything significant in return unless they cover some of his remaining salary.

FOX Sports' Jon Paul Morosi reports that the Astros and Diamondbacks have talked about a deal involving Wandy Rodriguez.
Morosi says a trade between the two clubs is not imminent. The D'Backs are desperate for pitching, and Rodriguez would be a clear upgrade for their rotation, but his contract isn't too appetizing. Still, he's one of the better starters available and would give Arizona a better shot to contend in the NL West.

Wandy Rodriguez yielded two runs over seven innings in a tough-luck loss to the Cubs on Saturday afternoon.
Rodriguez held the Cubs to just three hits -- two of them solo homers -- while walking one and striking out seven. The southpaw had allowed four runs or more in four out of his five previous starts, so this was nice to see. The Astros would be open to moving him before the deadline, but it's worth noting that his $13 million club option for 2014 becomes a player option in the event of a trade.

According to Sports Illustrated's Jon Heyman, American League teams "seem to be shying away" from Wandy Rodriguez because they are skeptical he could make the transition from the National League.
Rodriguez is more of a flyball pitcher than groundball pitcher, so he would indeed seem to be a poor fit for at least the tiny stadiums of the American League East. Most prohibitive to any trade, however, is the nearly $39 million he's due between now and the end of 2014.

CBS Sports' Danny Knobler reports that the Reds have looked into acquiring Wandy Rodriguez.
New Astros owner Jim Crane reportedly wants to slash the team's payroll down to $60 million, and with possibly $36 million owed to him over the next three seasons, Rodriguez could be on the trading block. It would take a pretty decent return to get him, though, as he'd be one of the better starters available on the market. The Reds are also considering the Rockies' Ubaldo Jimenez.

Wandy Rodriguez struck out 11 Pirates Sunday but allowed four earned runs over 5 2/3 innings as part of a no-decision.
The 11 strikeouts are a great sign that the stuff is there for Rodriguez, but he's falling into one of his control ruts. He's walked 10 batters over his last three starts and given up 15 earned runs over that span. And with the Astros incapable of winning games, the upside with Rodriguez is limited. In shallow leagues, only those in need of strikeouts should consider him a must-start.

Wandy Rodriguez held the Rangers in check Thursday, tossing seven shutout innings while allowing four hits and three walks in the 7-0 win.
He struck out four. It's a nice bounce-back effort after Rodriguez was touched up for five runs by the Rays his last time out. The superb start pushes his ERA back below 3.00 at 2.97, and Wandy finishes June with a sparkling 1.80 ERA despite the hiccup in Tampa. He'll look for his seventh win next week against the Pirates.

Wandy Rodriguez pitched six scoreless innings Saturday in the Astros' 7-0 win over the Dodgers.
It was just Rodriguez's second start back from the DL, so the Astros didn't want to push him. He struck out six and walked one while lowering his ERA to 2.88. This makes 12 scoreless innings since he returned.
