Mets GM Sandy Alderson said Thursday that Travis d'Arnaud could open the 2013 season in the major leagues.
But it seems unlikely to happen. "I just don't want to rule anything out," Alderson said. "But at the same time, I don't want to create false expectations for our fans or put pressure on Travis." The young catcher is exceptionally talented but hasn't played since last June because of a knee injury. He'll be better suited spending a few more months at Triple-A.

He hit .333/.380/.595 with 16 home runs and 52 RBI in 67 games this summer with Triple-A Las Vegas and shows good athleticism behind the plate. The Mets also got top pitching prospect Noah Syndergaard, big-league catcher John Buck and 18-year-old outfielder Wulimer Becerra from Toronto.

According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, the Mets may land prospect catcher Travis d'Arnaud from the Blue Jays for right-hander R.A. Dickey.
Heyman cautions that the information is unconfirmed, but he hears that d'Arnaud has been discussed heavily in trade talks along with fellow catcher J.P. Arencibia.
