Anderson will bat leadoff for Friday's series opener versus the Twins.
EDGE Analysis
Anderson has primarily slotted in the two-hole of Chicago's batting order, but manager Rick Renteria decided to keep him atop the order after he led off Thursday's contest with a roundtripper. With this move, he'll bump Tyler Saladino back to the second spot, which could afford Anderson some more run-scoring opportunities with another solid bat hitting behind him.

Anderson went 1-for-6 with a home run and two runs scored in Thursday's 10-4 win over the Indians.
EDGE Analysis
With Tyler Saladino getting a night off, Anderson was moved up the leadoff spot and opened the game with a homer. That's good, but Anderson's not a traditional leadoff bat and has been even less so in 2017. He hasn't walked over his first 36 plate appearances and has swung at 56.6 percent of the pitches he's seen (13th in MLB), including 44.4 percent of offerings outside the zone (sixth). Manager Rick Renteria said during spring training that he has no qualms about using him atop the order, but it appears his bat plays better in the middle of the order.

Anderson went 1-for-4 with two strikeouts in Wednesday's 2-1 win over the Indians.
EDGE Analysis
Anderson's batting average finally reached .200 after he spent six games below the Mendoza line. Over 30 at-bats, he has six singles, one RBI, no walks and a team-leading 10 strikeouts. Manager Rick Rentria said the second-year shortstop's been chasing outside the zone, according to Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune.

Manager Rick Renteria said he expects Anderson to serve as the No. 2 hitter for the White Sox in most games, Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Though Anderson's skills as a base stealer stack up well with just about any player on the roster, he hasn't yet demonstrated that he's capable of getting on base frequently enough to make for a strong option at the top of the order. Batting in the No. 2 spot shouldn't dramatically reduce Anderson's opportunities to wreak havoc on the bases and score runs, and he could even ascend to the leadoff spot if he shows an improved eye at the plate early on during his second season in the big leagues. Renteria currently plans to use either second baseman Tyler Saladino or center fielders Peter Bourjos and Jacob May as his leadoff man to begin the season, none of whom seemingly represent long-term solutions at the top of the order.

Anderson (personal) was back in the White Sox lineup Tuesday and went 2-for-4 with a triple, a run scored and an RBI in a game against the Rangers. He had not played since Friday while attending to a personal matter.
EDGE Analysis
Anderson, Chicago's newest multi-millionaire, showed why the White Sox locked up him for six years with two team-option years earlier in the day. It was the richest contract ever awarded to a player with less than one year of service time (115 days). The dynamic 22-year-old hit .283 over 99 games in 2016 with 37 extra-base hits and 10 stolen bases. The only negatives -- and we understand it's very early in his career and there's time to overcome them -- are the high-strikeout and low-walk rates.

Anderson (personal) agreed to a six-year, $25 million contract extension with the White Sox on Tuesday, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.
EDGE Analysis
It's the largest contract ever given to a player with less than one year of service time in MLB history, as Anderson, the White Sox's presumptive shortstop of the present and future, decided to prioritize earlier financial security over long-term earning potential. The contract will allow the White Sox to retain Anderson's rights until he turns 31 years old, while also buying out his arbitration years and first two years of free agency. The White Sox are hoping that the 23-year-old can establish himself as a top-of-the-lineup bat in 2017 after he slashed .283/.306/.432 in 431 plate appearances as a rookie, while delivering nine homers and 10 steals.

Anderson is out of the White Sox's lineup for the third straight game due to personal reasons, Dan Hayes of CSN Chicago reports.
EDGE Analysis
Although only the first absence was planned for, Hayes reported that it was nothing to worry about. Anderson enjoyed a nice debut with the White Sox last season, as the 23-year-old slashed .238/.306/.432 with nine homers and 10 stolen bases in 99 games. He'll look to improve on those numbers in his first full major league season in 2017.

Anderson was the White Sox's leadoff hitter in Saturday's game against the Dodgers. He went 1-for-3 with a double and a strikeout.
EDGE Analysis
With Adam Eaton, who started 119 games last season as Chicago's leadoff hitter, off the Washington, Anderson is being given the first crack atop the batting order in 2017. He's not an ideal leadoff hitter, as evidenced by a 27.1 percent strikeout rate and .306 on-base percentage in 2016. He's cognizant of what's needed from a leadoff hitter -- seeing more pitches, reducing strikeouts -- but Anderson said he doesn't plan to change his approach too much. White Sox manager Rick Renteria is confident in Anderson's ability to adapt, but also indicated others will get opportunities.

Anderson ranked 10th in Defensive Runs Saved and 11th in Ultimate Zone Rating among shortstops that played at least 800 innings in 2016.
EDGE Analysis
Anderson's athleticism was never questioned when the White Sox selected him 17th overall in the 2013, but whether he had enough defense in him to remain at shortstop was. As evidenced by his performance in 2016, his defensive improvement means he'll be firmly ensconced as the team's starting shortstop during the organization's current rebuild window. Offensively, the 23-year-old showed good middle-infield power, but his on-base skills weren't ideal for a top-of-the-order nor was his 27-percent strikeout rate. Those are obvious areas of improvement to look for in 2017, but he's in no danger of losing plate appearances on a team that figures to be in a rebuild mode. Additionally, he has the full support of manager Rick Renteria, who feels Anderson is a threat to opposing hurlers every time he steps in the box.

Anderson hit his eighth homer in a 3-for-5 game with two runs scored and three RBI Tuesday against the Rays.
EDGE Analysis
The surprising pop Anderson showed early on in his season had yet to show up in September. This was his first homer of the month, and he entered Tuesday's game with just a .250/.289/.304 line in 23 September games. Anderson hasn't shown much plate discipline, but he still owns a decent .278/.300/.411 line on the season, and if he can maintain this level of power, he'll have a future at shortstop for the White Sox.
