Well on his way to a breakout campaign, Souza sports a .260/.374/.485 slash line with 12 homers, 39 RBI and 32 runs. His 28.8 strikeout percentage and .341 BABIP are a concerning combo for the prospects of maintaining his respectable batting average and excellent on-base percentage, but Souza is also in the heart of his prime. He should be able to avoid significant statistical decline.

He's also drawing a hearty number of walks, making him a terrific asset in OBP formats.

Souza had struggled throughout the majority of May before coming alive over the last six games; factoring in Monday's production, he's posted a .478 average, .617 wOBA and 61.1 percent hard contact rate over that span while compiling three home runs and six RBI.

Souza went 3-for-7 with two RBI from a fielder's choice and a game-tying single in the ninth inning of Sunday's 8-6 extra-inning victory over the Twins. He also drew a walk.

The slugging outfielder opened the scoring in the first with a RBI fielder's choice that plated Kevin Kiermaier and then knotted the game at 5-5 in the ninth by knocking Evan Longoria with a single to right. Souza has now reached safely in 14 straight games and has been doing a better job of drawing free passes in May, raising his walk rate from April's 11.1 percent to 19.1 percent. The flip side is that the strikeouts also keep rising, as Souza has whiffed on a whopping 31.9 percent of his 94 plate appearances during the current month.

He'd been in a mighty slump -- just 8-for-67 with an insane total of 30 strikeouts over his last 20 games -- so this was huge for Souza and his fantasy owners, who so enjoyed having him in the lineup for much of April. Unfortunately, it looks like the progress he made early on in terms of making contact was a mirage, so Souza still can't be counted on to hit for decent average. That said, he's been a credit all season long to owners in leagues that use OBP rather than average.
