Geltz was sent back to Triple-A Durham following Sunday's game against the Astros, Steve Carney of 620 WDAE reports.
EDGE Analysis
The move opens up room on the 25-man roster for the anticipated return of Alex Cobb (elbow) from the disabled list Monday. The 28-year-old reliever allowed a run on three hits in Sunday's contest, but should still be a candidate to rejoin the club when rosters expand in September.

Geltz will be recalled from Triple-A Durham.
EDGE Analysis
To make room for Geltz, the Rays have optioned Mike Mahtook to the Durham. In 21 games for the Rays this season, Geltz has a 6.75 ERA and given up 10 homers in 20 innings.

The Rays optioned Geltz to Triple-A Durham following Friday's game.
EDGE Analysis
Geltz was sent to Durham to open up a roster spot for Oswaldo Arcia, whom the Rays claimed off waivers Friday. Geltz posted an unsightly 6.75 ERA over 21 appearances out of the Rays' bullpen this season, but he appeared in 70 games with the big club last year, so he will be among the top options next time the team needs to call up an arm from the minors.

Geltz, who pitched well in his first two appearances after getting called up from Triple-A last Friday, gave up three hits (including two homers) and three earned runs over an inning. He struck out two.
EDGE Analysis
The 28-year-old righty had fired 1.1 innings of shutout, no-hit ball over his first two trips to the mound upon his return, but was touched up by the Indians on Tuesday. Things got started on the wrong foot when Geltz gave up an inning-opening single to Mike Napoli, and then went significantly downhill when he surrendered subsequent back-to-back homers to Jose Ramirez and Juan Uribe. While he finished the frame strong with consecutive whiffs of Yan Gomes and Tyler Naquin, the damage was already done. Geltz's rather unorthodox stat line in his latest major league stint includes an 11.57 ERA but four strikeouts over just 2.1 innings as well.

Geltz was recalled by the Rays on Friday, the Tampa Bay Times' Marc Topkin reports.
EDGE Analysis
He appears to be a different pitcher than he was a year ago, when he had the look of a potential relief ace. Now, he has a 6.06 ERA and just 12 strikeouts in 16.1 innings in relief at Triple-A, and figures to pitch mostly in low-leverage situations out of the Rays' bullpen.

Geltz was optioned to Triple-A Durham on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Geltz heads to Durham after pitching 15.1 innings with the Rays, recording 12 strikeouts and a 5.28 ERA. The Rays have yet to announce who will take Geltz spot on the roster.

Geltz surrendered a go-ahead two-run homer to Danny Valencia in the ninth inning of Sunday's 7-6 loss to the A's. He also struck out a batter.
EDGE Analysis
Geltz continues his rollercoaster season out of the pen, seemingly alternating rough outings with solid ones the past few appearances. He fell victim to the red-hot Danny Valencia in the ninth Sunday, after Xavier Cedeno had allowed Billy Burns to reach base on a double before Geltz was summoned. Valencia then promptly launced a 434-foot blast to left center on the 28-year-old reliever's first offering, giving Oakland a lead they wouldn't reliquish. The homer was alarmingly the third given up by Geltz over his last four appearances, and the fifth overall over his 13.2 innings this season.

Geltz surrendered two hits in 1.2 innings in Monday's 5-2 loss to the Mariners, along with a three-run homer. He was only charged with one earned run however, and also struck out two batters.
EDGE Analysis
The 28-year-old reliever inherited Leonys Martin and Norichika Aoki as baserunners after they'd been issued free passes by Dana Eveland, and then promptly gave up a 391-foot homer to right-field to Ketel Marte, the first batter he faced. It was another up-and-down appearance for Geltz, who's surrendered an earned run in two of his last three outings, and has seen his ERA climb from 3.38 to 4.09 since the calendar turned to May.

Geltz surrendered a hit, an earned run and a walk over 0.2 innings of work in Thursday's 6-0 loss to the Indians.
EDGE Analysis
The 28-year-old right-hander came on in the sixth inning, a batter after starter Chris Archer had surrendered a two-run shot to Marlon Byrd. Geltz promptly yielded a solo homer to Rajai Davis that made the score 4-0, before getting two outs to finish off the frame. The veteran reliever was one of various members of the Rays bullpen that was initially believed to be in line for some save opportunities in the wake of Brad Boxberger's abdomen injury, but Thursday's outing marked his first appearance since Apr. 5. Geltz has worked 2.1 innings over his three trips to the mound, with Davis' homer representing the first hit and run of the season on his ledger.

Geltz may be a candidate for save opportunities with the news that Brad Boxberger (abdomen) will miss eight weeks. "We have a number of guys that could try to fill that void for the first month of the year," manager Kevin Cash told the Tampa Tribune. "We'll have some opportunities that will present itself for more bullpen arms."
EDGE Analysis
Alex Colome seems like the best bet for saves, as he was slated for the setup role before Boxberger went down, but Cash is keeping the door open for Geltz, Xavier Cedeno, and even Danny Farquhar and Ryan Webb to possibly see some chances. Geltz turned in a rather pedestrian (for a back-end arm) 13.0% K-BB% last season and had a 4.32 second-half ERA.
