Geltz will have his workload limited for the rest of the season, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
It's not entirely a surprise that Tampa Bay would want to limit Geltz's workload, as he's currently second in the American League in pitching appearances. He's not the most efficient reliever, but his flexibility this season should make him a solid piece of the bullpen going forward.

Geltz pitched a scoreless ninth inning of relief in Friday's 3-2 loss to the Royals.
EDGE Analysis
Geltz had a remarkable first half for the Rays, pitching in every role imaginable and, in one span of appearances, retiring 32 consecutive batters, but he's struggled in the second half with a 5.25 ERA since the start of July. However, he's also allowed a .198/.250/.372 line over the same period, so it could very well be some rotten luck.

Geltz had a rough night, allowing four runs on three hits, walking one and striking out three over 1.1 innings to take the loss as the Rays fell to the Yankees 7-5 in 12 innings.
He has been an exceptional set-up man for the Rays this season, including a stretch of 32 consecutive hitters retired in June, but this wasn't his night. After his mates gave him a two-run lead in the top of the 12th, he came back out for the bottom of the inning and allowed one run to score before serving up a walk-off, three-run shot to Brian McCann.

Geltz saw his stretch of perfection come to an end Wednesday against Toronto, as he allowed a hit, but still pitched two scoreless innings with three strikeouts.
The 27-year-old righty set a new franchise record by retiring 32 consecutive batters until Ezequiel Carrera singled off him to end the streak. Nonetheless, that still leaves Geltz with 11 strikeouts and just one baserunner over 11 scoreless innings in his last nine appearances. He's developed into a major asset in formats that count holds, and his versatility gets him into a lot of games for Tampa.

Geltz will get the start Wednesday, but the Rays are expected to treat it like a bullpen game, so he probably won't see more than a few innings, the Tampa Bay Times' Marc Topkin reports.
Matt Andriese was the anticipated starter, and he will still pitch in Wednesday's game, but Geltz will be the one who gets the start. Due to the fact that Geltz almost certainly won't make it five innings, he is not a good option for owners looking to get a win Wednesday.

Geltz has performed well for the Rays so far in 2015, notching a 3.15 ERA in 20.0 innings with a 25:9 K:BB ratio.
What's more interesting is Geltz has performed just about every role a reliever can do this year, with appearances in every inning except the third. He's registered a save, served mop-up duty, and even been used as a pseudo-starter to give the Rays an extra pinch hitter in a National League game. That said, this versatility of roles means he has little fantasy value compared to his value to the Rays, since only closers tend to hold water in many leagues.

Geltz got his first save Wednesday against Boston, working around a hit in a scoreless ninth.
In an interesting twist, Brad Boxberger was used in the seventh, Kevin Jepsen got the eighth, and Geltz got the ninth. He's been a decent bullpen asset for the Rays thus far, but with just a 7:5 K:BB in nine innings so far, he's not looking like a high-upside potential closer, so he's not worth much of a fantasy investment.

Geltz will start for the Rays in Friday's game against the Marlins, Roger Mooney of the Tampa Tribune reports.
Geltz doesn't have any starting experience in either the majors or the minors, but he'll receive his first opportunity to do so Friday. He doesn't pitch in extended outings typically, however, so the game will likely result in a plethora of bullpen pitchers taking the mound.

Geltz has made Tampa Bay's 25-man roster, the Tampa Bay Tribune reports.
Geltz had a strong spring with a 1.74 ERA and 8:0 K:BB ratio in 10.1 innings. He'll likely work in low-leverage spots and could be sent to the minors if the Rays need another lefty in the bullpen.

Geltz will have his contract purchased from Triple-A Durham when rosters expand Monday, Steve Carney of 620 WDAE reports.
Geltz tossed 41.2 innings out of the bullpen at Triple-A Durham this season, producing a 2.38 ERA and sparkling 60:17 K:BB ratio. He'll have to settle for low-leverage middle relief duty initially, but if his production quickly carries over to the big leagues, he could become one of the top setup men for closer Jake McGee.
