Clevenger was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk on Friday. With Matt Wieters set to return after missing the start of the season, Clevenger will head back down to Norfolk. Clevenger has been used sparingly in his two stints with the major league club this season (11 at-bats), and could be a DFA candidate if the Orioles need to open up a 40-man spot down the road.

Clevenger got the start behind the plate Saturday and was the only Oriole to have any success against Erasmo Ramirez, going 2-for-3. The O's only managed three hits on the day. Clevenger's now gone 4-for-7 since being called back up, and he could steal away some regular playing time from Caleb Joseph if he keeps stringing together hits. His window for value is a small one though, with Matt Wieters (elbow) expected back some time in June.

Clevenger was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday, Eddie Encina of the Baltimore Sun reports. The Orioles designated Ryan Lavarnway for assignment in a corresponding move, so Clevenger will step in as the backup to Caleb Joseph while Matt Wieters remains out. Clevenger was hitting .352 with 14 RBI and two home runs in 91 Triple-A at-bats.

Clevenger (thumb) will be activated from the DL Tuesday, Norfolk Tides reporter David Hall reports. Rossmel Perez will be sent back to Double-A Bowie as a corresponding move. We could see Clevenger back in the big leagues at some point this season, but it would likely be in a backup role.

Clevenger was placed on the disabled list with a left thumb contusion. Clevenger was optioned to Triple-A following the return of Chris Davis one day into the season. A thumb contusion shouldn't cost him too much time, but with Matt Wieters also working his way back from an injury, he remains down the organizational depth chart from a return to the majors.

With Ryan Lavarnway reassigned to minor-league camp Sunday, Clevenger will open the season as Baltimore's backup catcher. Matt Wieters (elbow) should be available before the end of April, so Clevenger's role may only lead to three or four starts. Assuming Caleb Joseph stays healthy, Wieters' return will send Clevenger back to Triple-A Norfolk.

Clevenger remains a candidate to be the backup catcher to begin the season, MLB.com reports. Baltimore is going defense first in making the decision between Clevenger, Ryan Lavarnway and J.P. Arencibia. Clevenger is the only one of the three on the 40-man roster, but the priorities remain clear. Clevenger struggled last year defensively and that prompted the Orioles to trade for Nick Hundley and send Clevenger to the minors.

Clevenger does not feel like he has gained an edge in the job for the backup catcher position, MASN Sports reports. Clevenger is battling Caleb Joseph, Ryan Lavarnway and J.P. Arencibia for the spot. Joseph remains the favorite, while Clevenger and the others are underdogs. Clevenger slashed a serviceable .305/.366/.389 with Triple-A last year, but he did not perform well in his MLB role (.225/.289/.337 in 35 games). The Orioles have more confidence in Clevenger's bat than his defense and that is the reason Joseph gained an edge last year in the first place.
