Steve Clevenger went 3-for-3 on Tuesday to raise his spring average to .484. Clevenger was told yesterday that he'd be Matt Wieters' backup. He's not quite as strong defensively as backups the Orioles have gone in the past, but he does offer a nice left-handed bat. Unfortunately, he won't get to use it that often, as Wieters gets as few days off as any AL catcher.

Steve Clevenger went 3-for-3 with a couple of doubles against the Blue Jays on Sunday. Clevenger isn't a great defender, but it looks like the Orioles will go with him as Matt Wieters' backup this season. He's 12-for-22 with a homer and three walks this spring.

Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports believes that Steve Clevenger could serve as the Orioles primary backup catcher behind starter Matt Wieters. The 27-year-old backstop who was acquired last season as part of the Scott Feldman trade, mashed the ball to the tune of .325/.401/.468 with five homers and 24 RBI in 44 games at Triple-A in 2013. As the roster is currently constructed, his only competition for the backup job will come from Johnny Monell, who was acquired from the Giants in late November.

Orioles recalled C Steve Clevenger from Triple-A Norfolk. The 27-year-old backstop was acquired from the Cubs in early July as part of the Scott Feldman trade. He has been stinging the ball in 20 games at the Triple-A level with the O's, hitting .324/.402/.437 with two homers and 11 RBI. He'll provide catching depth for the O's, and could also see the occasional start at first base.

Cubs activated C Steve Clevenger from 15-day disabled list; optioned him to Triple-A Iowa. The Cubs are playing it cautiously with his rehab, and he'll continue to get everyday at-bats at the Triple-A level to get his timing back. With Dionner Navarro performing well in his absence, there's no need to rush Clevenger back.

Steve Clevenger (oblique) completed his rehab stint but felt some tightness in his left side and will require additional time before being activated. Clevenger is eligible to return from the 60-day disabled list but will continue to rehab at Triple-A Iowa for a while longer. The Cubs aren't missing him, so he'll be given as much time as needed before returning.

Steve Clevenger (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Iowa on Monday. Clevenger has been over his oblique strain for a while now, but he's on the 60-day DL and not eligible to return until mid-June. It's probably not a given that he'll be added to the big league roster once eligible.

Steve Clevenger (oblique) has been playing in extended spring training games of late. "He's been abusing some of our guys when he's playing in intrasquad [games]," general manager Jed Hoyer said Monday. Clevenger is probably healthy enough to be activated, but he's on the 60-day DL and not eligible to return until mid-June.

Steve Clevenger (oblique) caught two bullpen sessions on Monday. He's also throwing from 120-130 feet and is expected to start swinging a bat early next week. Clevenger is on the 60-day DL and won't be eligible to return until mid-June. He should have no trouble being ready at that time, though he's not a given to return to the big club.
