Steve Cishek shut the Reds down in the ninth inning on Saturday, earning his 14th save of the season.
He's very quietly been fantastic since assuming the closer's role from Heath Bell on July 14, converting 13-of-14 save chances. On the season, he owns a sterling 2.48 ERA and 59/27 K/BB ratio over his 58 1/3 innings.

Steve Cishek was handed his first blown save Saturday since inheriting the Marlins' ninth-inning role, allowing four runs on four hits in 2/3 of an inning.
Cishek took over with a 3-1 lead, then allowed consecutive singles to start the ninth inning. After striking out Ike Davis, Lucas Duda singled to cut the lead to 3-2. Mike Baxter fouled out to the shortstop for the second out, but Andres Torres drew a walk, then Kelly Shoppach delivered the crushing blow with a three-run single to center. With as well as he's pitched, Cishek should keep his gig. But he'll certainly be put on notice.

Steve Cishek retired all three Mets' hitters he faced on Tuesday, picking up his seventh save of the season.
While Marlins skipper Ozzie Guillen initially stated it would be a closer-by-committee at the back of his bullpen after Heath Bell was removed from the role, Cishek has done everything in his power to lock down the role for himself. Since the All-Star break, he has tossed 9 1/3 scoreless innings while posting a 10/3 K/BB ratio and converting all six of his save chances. It goes without saying, but he should be owned and active in all formats.

Steve Cishek recorded his second save of the season on Saturday, getting the final five outs in a victory over the Nationals.
Cishek was called upon with one out in the eighth inning, and retired Ryan Zimmerman and Mike Morse on 12 pitches. He remained in the game for the ninth, allowing a two-out single to Roger Bernadina but nothing more. Cishek might just be Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen's preferred option for saves at the moment, and should be owned in all fantasy formats.

Steve Cishek blew a save in Wednesday's 5-3, 12-inning win over the Astros, allowing one run on two hits and a walk in the ninth inning.
One week after Cishek got stuck with one of Heath Bell's blown saves, this one was all on him. Tasked with protecting a 3-2 lead, he got Jed Lowrie to fly out before serving up a triple to Carlos Lee. He then struck out Travis Buck and walked Chris Johnson before allowing an RBI single to Brian Bogusevic. He got Matt Downs to ground out to end the inning. Cishek's peripherals are still sparkling, but the outing likely ensured that Edward Mujica, who pitched a scoreless eighth this evening, will remain the Marlins' closer while Heath Bell sorts out his issues.

Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen indicated to reporters Saturday that Steve Cishek will be his fill-in closer.
Heath Bell is struggling mightily in the early going, so the Fish are going to use him in lower-pressure situations for a little while. Cishek, 25, has registered a dominant 0.91 ERA, 0.63 WHIP and 15/6 K/BB ratio in 14 1/3 innings this season and should do well as Miami's temporary ninth-inning man. Ryan Webb and Edward Mujica could also see some save opportunities.

Steve Cishek pitched three scoreless innings for the victory as the Marlins edged the Padres 9-8 in 12 innings on Friday.
The Marlins didn't want to use Edward Mujica tonight, so Cishek stayed in even after the team grabbed the lead in the top of the 12th. Cishek would be our choice to close for Miami in place of the struggling Heath Bell, but Mujica is likely the favorite for saves right now. Cishek certainly won't be in the mix Saturday; he's due one or maybe even two days off after topping 50 pitches tonight.

After Edward Mujica failed to capitalize on his chance, Steve Ceshek got two outs for a save Wednesday against the Reds.
Mujica was the Marlins' choice to close with Leo Nunez needing a day off, but he gave up a double, a two-run homer to Todd Frazier and a walk before getting pulled having retired just one batter. Cishek came in and got a flyout and a groundout to end the game. He could see more save opps if Nunez's struggles continue.
