Cishek picked up the save with a perfect ninth inning in the Marlins' 3-2 win over Washington Friday night. Heading into the last week of April, this was his first save of the season. A couple of nasty outings including a blown save have bloated his ERA (now 10.38), but he has been much more effective of late, and this was Miami's third win in a row. Both he and the team will look for better days ahead which should provide him with more save opportunities going forward.

Cishek has pitched just 3.1 innings so far this season and is still searching for his first save. Cishek's numbers aren't going to look pretty anytime soon after he allowed five earned runs in 1.1 innings pitched over his first two appearances of the season, blowing a save chance in the process. He has tossed a pair of scoreless innings since, but Miami's slow start has failed to present another opportunity for the closer to bounce back. Still, Cishek has earned the team's trust at the back end of the bullpen and will begin to pile up saves when the wins start rolling in.

Cishek took a blown save after allowing one run on two hits in an inning of work. He struck out one. The outing actually lowered his ERA (it's now 33.75) after he gave up four runs while recording just one out in a non-save situation earlier this week. He needed 19 pitches (only 12 strikes) which was also an improvement, so the Marlins and his fantasy owners have to hope he is headed in the right direction.

Cishek gave up four earned runs on two hits and two walks while recording just one out in a non-save situation Tuesday against the Braves. This is a pretty rough way for Cishek's owners to get their first taste of owning him in 2015. He was having a hard time locating, as only 50 percent of his 24 pitches were strikes. He should be available again Wednesday should a save situation arise as he looks to make up for Tuesday's horrific start to the season.

Cishek agreed to a one-year, $6.65 million contract with the Marlins on Friday, avoiding arbitration, Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports. The 28-year-old right-hander finished fifth in the NL in saves last season with 39, and he'll be rewarded handsomely -- in the form of a nearly $3 million raise -- in his second year of arbitration. Cishek's FIP (2.17) was an even 100 points lower than his ERA last season, suggesting improved numbers in the ratio categories may be coming in 2015. Further, the Marlins have improved as a team, so Cishek may be afforded more save opportunities.

Cishek struck out two batters in a scoreless ninth inning Thursday to earn the save against Philadelphia. Cishek retired the side on 13 pitches, recording his 39th save in 43 chances. He had some rough patches in the middle of the season, but it's been a success overall, and he's got a shot at save No. 40 over the weekend.

Cishek allowed a pair of hits but escaped with his 38th save of the season Tuesday against the Phillies. The Marlins closer has had a dominant final month, tossing eight scoreless innings in September while converting 7-of-7 save opportunities. It's been an up-and-down ride for Cishek after he posted an ERA over 4.00 in June, July and August before snapping back into form in September. All told, Cishek holds a solid 3.22 ERA and 1.23 WHIP with 82 strikeouts in 64.1 innings pitched while converting 38 saves in 42 chances this season.

Cishek earned his 36th save of the season Monday against the Mets as he recorded one strikeout in on perfect inning. Cishek has recorded a save in each of his last four appearances and has a chance at 40 saves in a season for the first time in his career despite the Marlins having a losing record overall.

Cishek allowed a hit and a walk in the ninth inning Sunday against the Phillies before ultimately striking out the side to earn his 35th save of the season. Cishek has now converted 35-of-39 save opportunities on the year while posting a 3.38 ERA and 1.26 WHIP and racking up 79 strikeouts in 61.1 innings pitched. Cishek has actually had a down year by his standards after posting three straight seasons with an ERA below 2.70, but has remained effective thanks to a career-best 30.3 k%.

Cishek locked up his 34th save of the year Tuesday after pitching a scoreless ninth inning. He allowed one hit and one walk, while striking out one in his inning of work. Cishek has not allowed an earned run in his last six appearances and has settled back into a grove after a bumpy month of August. He now has a 3.43 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 76:20 K:BB in 60.1 innings.
