Smith is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Angels, Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
He's made less than a handful of starts against left-handed pitching this season, so Smith's absence Saturday against Andrew Heaney should not come as a surprise. Lefty masher Franklin Gutierrez will start in left field and bat fifth.

Smith is out of the lineup Saturday against the Rangers, MLB.com's Greg Johns reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smith will unsurprisingly sit out against lefty Cole Hamels, with Franklin Gutierrez replacing him in left field. Smith has logged just 47 plate appearances versus southpaws this season.

Smith went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a walk, and two runs scored in a win over Oakland on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
Smith has been mired in a dreadful slump since the beginning of August, so a performance like this was nice to see. He was hitting below .200 since the end of July and he's becoming hard to trust in even AL-only formats. With September call-ups and the Mariners being out of contention, Smith may lose some at-bats in the final two months to get some youngster some plate appearances.

Smith is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Astros, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The M's are facing another lefty in Scott Kazmir on Wednesday -- the fifth they've faced in their last seven games -- so Smith will sit again in favor of Franklin Gutierrez. Smith figures to start the first two games of the upcoming A's series before parking it against southpaw Felix Doubront for Sunday's finale.

Smith is not in the lineup Friday against the White Sox, Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smith will take a seat for the second day in a row, though he ended up going 1-for-2 with a double in Thursday's contest after entering in the seventh inning. The lefty has been sitting against most southpaws, so with the left-handed John Danks getting the start for the White Sox, Franklin Gutierrez will draw the start in left field and bat fifth.

Smith is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angles. The Mariners are going up against yet another lefty in Andrew Heaney, and given that Smith has made just one start against a left handed pitcher this season, he will once again sit this one out. Franklin Gutierrez will draw the start in left field and bat second.

Smith is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Angels, Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune reports. He has made just one start against a lefty this season, so Smith's absence Friday against Hector Santiago should not come as a surprise. Franklin Gutierrez will draw the start in left field and bat second.

Smith is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Tigers. This was to be expected, with Detroit trotting out a lefty in Kyle Ryan. Smith has been heavily shielded from left-handed pitching this season (15 at-bats), and that isn't likely to change. He's batting .252/.329/.443 with six homers against right-handers.

Smith is out of the lineup Thursday against the Athletics. Smith will sit with the left-handed Scott Kazmir on the mound for the Athletics. He continues to receive most starts in left field, but will likely continue to sit against most southpaws.

Smith is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Padres. Smith's last absence came Sunday against the Angels, but that wasn't much of a surprise given the left-handed Hector Santiago on the mound for the Padres. However, he's again out of the lineup Wednesday despite righty James Shields toeing the rubber, which is a bit more confusing. Regardless, he should still be considered the primary left-fielder for the Mariners unless something indicates otherwise.
