Newcomb is in line to start Saturday's game against the Phillies, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Newcomb tossed 4.2 scoreless innings Monday night against the Pirates, and it appears that he's earned at least one more chance to start unless he's needed out of the bullpen before Saturday's contest. He owns a 2.59 ERA with a 26:10 K:BB over 31.1 innings this season.

Newcomb (1-0) picked up the win in Monday's victory over the Pirates, allowing only one hit over 4.2 scoreless innings of relief while striking out six.
EDGE Analysis
The southpaw was brilliant after replacing Kevin Gausman in the third inning, and a 13-run outburst by the Atlanta offense was more than enough to reward Newcomb with the win. There's little immediate chance of him moving back into the rotation with Dallas Keuchel on his way, but Newcomb has become a valuable jack-of-all-trades in the team's bullpen. Since returning to the majors a little over a month ago, he's got a 1.42 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 21:2 K:BB over 19 innings while recording a save and six holds in 16 appearances in addition to Monday's victory.

Newcomb fired a perfect ninth inning with one strikeout to earn the save over San Francisco on Monday.
EDGE Analysis
Since returning to the MLB following a minor-league stint, Newcomb has tossed 8.1 scoreless innings of relief and has yet to walk a batter. In three April starts, he walked eight in just 12.1 frames. Atlanta's closing situation is a mess right now as Luke Jackson has blown three of his nine save chances. It's possible Newcomb gets a few more looks in that role in the near future.

Newcomb gave up a hit and struck out two over two scoreless innings of relief during Monday's loss to the Dodgers.
EDGE Analysis
Control issues cost him his spot in the rotation, but Newcomb seems to have solved the problem, issuing zero free passes in his final 13 innings for Triple-A Gwinnett before being called back up Saturday and continuing to display strong form. He could get a chance to start again later in the year if another pitcher gets hurt, but for now expect the 25-year-old lefty to bolster Atlanta's bullpen.

Newcomb was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
Newcomb was optioned to Gwinnett in mid-April after recording a 5:8 K:BB in his first three starts. The Braves haven't announced what his role will be this time around, but there doesn't appear to be a spot open in the rotation at the moment, so he may be ticketed for a relief role. Touki Toussaint was optioned in a corresponding move.

Newcomb worked seven innings and gave up two runs on six hits and no walks while striking out seven Wednesday in his start for Triple-A Gwinnett. He threw 61 of his 88 pitches for strikes.
EDGE Analysis
There had been some murmurs earlier in the week that Newcomb might be in consideration for a spot start Thursday in Cincinnati, but Julio Teheran was ultimately awarded the nod for that game with Atlanta opting to keep all of their rotation members on normal rest. Newcomb instead stayed on turn for his second start with Gwinnett and turned in an encouraging outing. The zero free passes in particular were a welcome sight after Newcomb walked eight in 12.1 innings with the big club prior to being demoted. The lefty may need to display quality control for a few outings in a row before he earns another look in Atlanta.

Newcomb could be recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett to start Thursday's game against the Reds, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Braves can get away without adding another pitcher to the rotation this week, but it appears they may want to build in an additional day of rest for Mike Foltynewicz (elbow), who is expected to return from the 10-day injured list this weekend against the Rockies after recently completing his fourth rehab start. If Atlanta does in fact save Foltynewicz for the weekend, Newcomb would be eligible to return from the minors Thursday and would make for the most logical choice to fill the opening in the pitching schedule. The Braves may use the last two games of their series in Cincinnati as a de facto audition for the final spot in their rotation between Newcomb and Mike Soroka, who is scheduled to start Wednesday.

Newcomb was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Newcomb allowed four runs over 1.1 innings during Saturday's start against the Mets and apparently gave the Braves all they needed to see with Mike Foltynewicz (elbow) nearing his return from the injured list. Newcomb allowed only two runs over 11 innings during his first two starts, but his 5:6 K:BB tells a more troubling story. Touki Toussaint threw six innings of stellar relief Saturday and figures to be in the mix for the starting rotation with Newcomb now in the minors, though the Braves have yet to announce their plans for the rotation.

Newcomb didn't factor into the decision during Saturday's 11-7 win over the Mets, surrendering four runs on five hits and two walks over 1.1 innings.
EDGE Analysis
Atlanta handed the southpaw a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, but Newcomb immediately squandered it and got chased from the game after only 35 pitches (21 strikes). Touki Toussaint pitched very well in relief of Newcomb and Mike Foltynewicz (elbow) is close to rejoining the rotation as well, so Newcomb -- who now sports a 4.38 ERA and awful 5:8 K:BB through 12.1 innings -- could have a lot riding on his next start, current;y set for Thursday at home against Arizona.

Newcomb allowed two runs on four hits while striking out two and walking two across seven innings in a no-decision against the Marlins on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
The 25-year-old shut out the Cubs but didn't make it through five innings to record the victory in his first start, and then Sunday, the Braves didn't give him enough runs. Newcomb left with the game tied 2-2. He may still be looking for his first win, but Newcomb owns a 1.64 ERA through two starts. He also has a 1.45 WHIP and five strikeouts in 11.0 innings. His next outing is expected to be against the Mets.
