Manaea is expected to be sidelined for all of 2019 after undergoing shoulder surgery, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
The team will know for sure following the procedure, but the current expectation is that it will take a full year for the lefty to recover. That's unfortunate news for the A's and for Manaea, who had posted a career-best 3.59 ERA through 27 starts.

Manaea will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder on Sept. 19.
EDGE Analysis
Manaea was shut down with rotator cuff tendinitis in late August and will wind up being out for the rest of the year. He'll finish the season with a 12-9 record and a 3.59 ERA in 27 starts. It's unclear whether the recovery time for the surgery will put him at risk to be ready for the start of next season. More should become clear following the procedure.

Manaea (shoulder) is optimistic he'll pitch again this season, but the A's are considering it a long shot, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Manaea began strengthening exercises Monday, but he's still a long ways off from returning from the disabled list. More news on a timetable for his return should surface as he makes strides in his rehab, although it's safe to assume Manaea won't be back this season.

Manager Bob Melvin said Manaea (shoulder) started strengthening exercises Monday, MLB Network Radio reports.
EDGE Analysis
Manaea has been on the shelf since Aug. 26 with rotator cuff tendinitis. While the southpaw seemingly turned a corner Monday, Melvin noted that he still has a long way to go in his rehab and ultimately may not return this season. "It's still kind of dicey whether or not we're gonna get him back," said the Manager. "I said it was probably 50/50 several days ago, I don't know that it's any better than that at this point."

Manager Doug Melvin stated that Manaea (shoulder) has less than a 50 percent chance to pitch again this season, Jane Lee of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Manaea was diagnosed with rotator cuff tendinitis Tuesday, and although he remains without a clear timetable for a return, it seems unlikely he'll toe the rubber again in 2018. If this is the case, he'll finish the season with a 3.59 ERA and 1.08 WHIP with 108 strikeouts over 160.2 innings.

Manaea was diagnosed with a rotator cuff tendinitis, Jane Lee of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
This is a tough blow for Manaea and the A's. The southpaw will be shut down from throwing until the discomfort in his shoulder subsides, after which he'll have to build back up to throwing off a mound again. While the A's are hoping Manaea will be able to pitch again this season, there's a possibility that won't happen. Frankie Montas will take his turn in the rotation for the time being.

Manaea (shoulder) will be evaluated by Dr. Neal ElAttrache on Tuesday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Manaea landed on the disabled list Sunday with a left shoulder impingement, and after getting an MRI on Monday, he'll leave it to Dr. ElAttrache to determine the extent of the injury. The fact that Manaea is scheduled to see one of the top surgeons in pro sports is not good news, as it likely suggests that he's dealing with a serious injury. More news on Manaea's availability moving forward should emerge sometime Tuesday.

The Athletics placed Manaea on the 10-day disabled list Sunday with a left shoulder impingement.
EDGE Analysis
No injury was reported during Manaea's most recent start Friday against the Twins, though it's worth noting that he was pulled after throwing just 67 pitches in the victory and giving up one unearned run on five hits and one walk. Manaea's velocity has been dipping steadily since the beginning of the season, but the southpaw has still performed effectively, managing a 3.59 ERA and 1.08 WHIP across 27 starts. There's no indication that Manaea's setback is viewed as an especially significant one, so the Athletics may only need to get by without him for one or two turns through the rotation.

Manaea (12-9) allowed one unearned run on five hits in a win over the Twins on Friday, striking out one and walking one in five innings.
EDGE Analysis
Manaea allowed no extra-base hits and threw 50 of 67 pitches for strikes, handing it over to the bullpen who then tossed four hitless innings. Last year Manaea posted a 7.9 K/9 through 29 starts and this year has a 6.1 K/9 in 27 starts, but he's been much better about reducing the number of hits (.268 batting average against last year compared to a .232 opponent batting average this year). He's matched his win total from last year, and will look to keep it going in his next start against the Astros in Houston.

Manaea (11-9) allowed six earned runs on nine hits and no walks while striking out five across four innings to take the loss Sunday against the Astros.
EDGE Analysis
Manaea started the game well, striking out three batters in the first two innings. However, he ran into trouble with two outs in the third inning, as he allowed four consecutive hits with the big blow being a three-run home run by Yulieski Gurriel. The trouble continued as Manaea allowed another homer -- this one a solo shot by Evan Gattis -- prior to being pulled. While his 3.70 ERA and 1.07 WHIP are relatively strong, Manaea has had an inconsistent month of August with starts of just 2.2 and four innings respectively, while also putting together two quality starts.
