Dyson retired the only batter he faced to record the save Thursday during the Giants' 16-inning win over the Marlins.
EDGE Analysis
Hunter Strickland and some poor defense behind him blew the save chance in the ninth that started the extra-innings marathon, but Dyson came in after Ty Blach chewed up 6.2 frames and induced a flyout by Bryan Holaday to notch his first closure of 2018. He's resided on the periphery of San Francisco's saves picture, which has been controlled by Strickland since the start of the year, and probably ranks third at best on the hierarchy now that Mark Melancon has looked healthy and effective.

Dyson was saddled with the loss after giving up a pair of runs on a pair of hits over two-thirds of an inning in Monday's 7-5 loss to the Marlins.
EDGE Analysis
Dyson was unable to protect a one-run lead in the seventh inning when he allowed an inherited runner to score on a Brian Anderson RBI double, followed immediately by a two-run homer off the bat of J.T. Realmuto. Monday's rough outing broke an eight-inning scoreless streak for the veteran reliever, a span in which he recorded eight strikeouts and four holds. Dyson still owns a respectable 2.70 ERA on the year, but he will have to rebound quickly from this outing in order to stave off Mark Melancon and Will Smith -- who have both been solid in their respective returns from the DL -- in the Giants' bullpen pecking order.

Dyson gave up a pair of hits over a scoreless inning in Wednesday's 7-4 win over the Rockies.
EDGE Analysis
Dyson has rattled off three consecutive holds, and now owns nine on the year. After a tumultuous spring and start to the regular season, the 30-year-old has seemingly settled down with a 2.49 ERA over 25.1 innings. There are still some warning signs with Dyson, as his 3.87 FIP is over a run higher than his ERA, and his fastball velocity (93.4 mph) is his lowest since the 2013 season. That said, the end results up until now have been fine for those in holds leagues.

Dyson tossed a scoreless inning while giving up a hit and striking out one in Sunday's 4-2 win over the Dodgers.
EDGE Analysis
After a rough start to the season, Dyson has settled down with 6.1 scoreless innings and four holds in his last seven appearances. The veteran now owns a respectable 3.55 ERA over 12.2 innings, but his weak strikeout rate (4.3 K/9) and 5.25 FIP should be enough to deter fantasy owners looking for ratio help from the middle reliever.

Dyson gave up three runs on four hits over an inning in Wednesday's 7-3 loss to Arizona.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran was brought into the seventh inning to keep the deficit at one run, then proceeded to give up a parade of hits (including three doubles) before finally getting out of the frame. Dyson's spring struggles have carried over into the regular season, and he has yet to record a hold since being bypassed as closer in favor of Hunter Strickland at the beginning of the year. Tony Watson has been the superior setup man, and appears to be the target for holds (and better ratios) in San Francisco.

Dyson will remain in a setup role after manager Bruce Bochy announced that Hunter Strickland will take over for Mark Melancon (arm) as closer, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Dyson appeared to have a strong chance to fill in as closer to begin the year based on his usage in that role last season, but Bochy surprisingly went with Strickland --despite bypassing him in a similar scenario in 2017 -- likely due to the latter's dominant spring. Dyson, who didn't pitch Thursday, will move back into a setup role and mainly be deployed against righty-heavy lineups. Fantasy owners would have likely stomached the risk that came with pitcher who posted a 6.09 ERA last year if it resulted in save chances, but those in holds leagues can probably find a better option.

Dyson is a candidate to fill in for Mark Melancon (arm) if he has to begin the year on the disabled list, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
EDGE Analysis
Tony Watson and Hunter Strickland were also named as possible emergency fill-ins, but Dyson could get the first crack after having moderate success replacing Melancon last season. The 29-year-old followed up his abysmal 2017 season (6.09 ERA and 1.1 K/BB ratio) with an equally mediocre spring campaign (10 runs allowed on four homers over eight innings), so even if he were to see save chances, Dyson should be considered a low-end closing option. There has been no official word on whether Melancon will actually be placed on the disabled list to start the year, but it seems likely given the timing of the injury. Owners hunting for saves shouldn't hesitate taking a flyer on one of the Giants' potential ninth-inning options.

Dyson imploded Tuesday, giving up three earned runs on two home runs and recording his only out via the strikeout in a loss to the Royals.
EDGE Analysis
Initially expected to serve as the club's primary setup man, Dyson has now given up 10 earned runs (including four homers) over six innings of work this spring. The San Francisco Chronicle's Henry Schulman brings up the fact that the Giants can cut the veteran and get out of 75 percent of the $4.4 million that he is owed this upcoming season. While that development would be a surprise considering his projected role entering the year, Dyson's spring struggles combined with his atrocious 6.09 ERA and 1.1 K/BB ratio over 54.2 innings last season certainly warrant concern. Nothing is final, and a couple of strong outings could smooth out the threat of being released, but the 29-year-old's hold on the setup role -- and in turn his value in holds leagues -- is not as secure as it once seemed.

Dyson agreed to a one-year deal with the Giants on Friday, avoiding arbitration, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
The terms of the deal were not made available by the team, although Dyson likely received a slight raise on the $3.52 million he earned in his first year of arbitration. Assuming Mark Melancon (forearm) is able to report to spring training without any limitations, he will be the favorite to open the year as the Giants' closer. Dyson notched 14 saves while posting a 4.03 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 27 strikeouts in 38 innings after joining the Giants last season.

Dyson (3-4) blew his seventh save of the season and took the loss against San Diego on Saturday. He allowed two runs on three hits.
EDGE Analysis
Dyson has now blown consecutive save opportunities, which is a fitting bookend to his season after blowing his first three chances of the campaign in April. He sports a disastrous 6.09 ERA, 1.77 WHIP and 5.6 K/9 for the year, and it seems unlikely that he will receive a closer gig to open 2018.
