Dyson fired a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save in Saturday's 5-2 win over the Rockies. He did not record a strikeout or allow any baserunners.
EDGE Analysis
Dyson was called upon during the ninth inning Saturday since regular closer Will Smith pitched each of the last three days. The 30-year-old has allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits through 8.2 innings to begin the season.

Dyson appears set to begin the year in the Giants' bullpen, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
EDGE Analysis
This news shouldn't come as a surprise considering Dyson's bounce-back campaign in 2018 (2.69 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 7.2 K/9 over 70.1 innings). The 30-year-old did see his fastball velocity dip to 93.6 mph after sitting above 95 mph for the previous four years, but part of that can be attributed to a career-low 6.9 percent usage of his four-seam fastball. Dyson should begin the year as one of several trusted arms behind projected closer Will Smith, which should result in modest hold opportunities.

Dyson allowed a hit before recording two outs while picking up his 14th hold in Sunday's 9-6 win over Arizona.
EDGE Analysis
Dyson was initially expected to head a ninth-inning committee after Hunter Strickland (hand) landed on the disabled list mid-June, but his recent struggles (6.14 ERA over previous eight games) have put that status in jeopardy. Mark Melancon started the ninth frame Sunday, but had to hand the ball off to Will Smith -- who converted Saturday's save -- to finish off the Diamondbacks. Dyson may not be out of the mix completely, but the closing situation in San Francisco appears to be very fluid at the moment.

Dyson will be unavailable in a save situation Friday night after blowing a save Thursday and pitching in four of the last seven games, Jack Magruder of The Sports Xchange reports.
EDGE Analysis
The save opportunity Friday against Arizona could fall to Tony Watson or Will Smith as a result. Dyson now has four blown saves against just three saves and 13 holds, and it's unclear how long of a leash the Giants will give him in the ninth.

Dyson (2-2) blew his fourth save of the season, allowing a two-run homer in Thursday's 9-8 loss to Colorado.
EDGE Analysis
Dyson blew his first save since June 11, but is now just 3-for-7 in save chances in 2018. He was thrown in to the closer role after Hunter Strickland (finger) hit the DL and he doesn't really have a very strong hold on the ninth-inning gig. If he continues coughing up opportunities, Mark Melancon or Tony Watson could see some chances.

Dyson allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits with one strikeout over an inning in Saturday's 5-3 win over the Padres.
EDGE Analysis
The positive: Dyson was lined up to pitch in a save situation prior to the Giants tacking on an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning; the negative: he allowed two runs for the second consecutive game. In the reliever's defense, both the earned and unearned runs were the result of uncharacteristically poor defensive plays from Brandon Crawford. The former being a missed pop up that the shortstop lost in the sun, resulting in a hit and corresponding earned run. Mark Melancon converted the club's last save chance, but the former closer has yet to be cleared to pitch on back to back days following his long layoff. Dyson remains a part of a closer committee that includes Melancon and Tony Watson based on matchups and recent usage.

Dyson entered in the ninth inning in a save situation Wednesday, but allowed two runs on four hits while recording just two outs and settling for a hold against the Marlins.
EDGE Analysis
In his first save opportunity since being named the primary closer in Hunter Strickland's (hand) absence, Dyson struggled mightily. He allowed three singles and a double, and left with the go-ahead run on first base before Reyes Moronta locked down the save. With Strickland expected to miss at least six weeks, it's unlikely Dyson's leash would be short enough that he'd be in jeopardy of losing the closer job due to just one bad outing, but former closer Tony Watson is waiting in the wings should he continue to struggle.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy said after Tuesday's 6-3 win over the Marlins that Dyson would serve as the team's primary closer following Hunter Strickland's (hand) placement on the 10-day disabled list, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
EDGE Analysis
Bochy's pronouncement came after Dyson picked up his second save of the season in Tuesday's contest after entering with one out and a runner on in the top of the ninth and recording an inning-ending double play. Prior to the game, Bochy had revealed that he had two pitchers in mind to fill in for Strickland as closer, with one of the two receiving "the lion's share" of the save chances, according to Martin Oppegaard of MLB.com. It's now been established that Dyson will be the Giants' go-to man in the ninth inning, with Bochy also identifying Tony Watson as a left-handed option that could see occasional save chances. After a disastrous 2017 campaign that saw him lose out on the closer's role in Texas before being dealt to San Francisco, Dyson has bounced back well with a 2.45 ERA and 0.97 WHIP in 33 innings, but a 7.1 K/9 and .221 BABIP hint that regression could be coming for the right-hander. If Dyson does endure some turbulence at the back end of the bullpen, Watson, who boasts similar splits against both right- and left-handed hitters this season, would likely get the next shot at collecting the bulk of the saves while Strickland is sidelined for the next 6-to-8 weeks.

Dyson pitched a perfect two-thirds of an inning to earn the save Tuesday against the Marlins.
EDGE Analysis
Dyson came into the game with one on and one out in the ninth and induced a game-ending double-play ball on his second pitch, notching his second save of the year. Dyson now sports a 2.45 ERA and 0.97 WHIP while holding opponents to a .193 batting average. The 30-year-old figures to share the closer's role with lefty Tony Watson while everyday closer Hunter Strickland recovers from a broken hand. When Dyson filled in as closer last year for the Giants he was 14-for-17 in save opportunities.

Dyson could act as the Giants' closer while Hunter Strickland (hand) is sidelined for the next 6-8 weeks, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Manager Bruce Bochy announced Tuesday that Dyson and fellow reliever Tony Watson are the likely candidates to step into the closer role after Hunter Strickland broke his right hand Monday after punching a wall in the clubhouse following a blown save. Dyson currently owns a 2.51 ERA with a 26:10 K:BB over 32.1 innings of relief this season. He also recorded a combined 52 saves during the 2016 and 2017 seasons.
