Schimpf is batting second Thursday against the Diamondbacks.
EDGE Analysis
Schimpf's .119 batting average heading into Thursday's contest is nothing to call home about, but his strong propensity to draw walks apparently caught the eye of the Padres brass. It's unclear if this is a long-term placement or just a short-term promotion, but it certainly bodes well for the 29-year-old's run-scoring opportunities.

Schimpf went 1-for-2 with a home run, two runs scored and a pair of walks in Sunday's loss to Atlanta.
EDGE Analysis
Sunday's stat line is a perfect representation of what the slugging infielder brings to the table: power and an ability to get on base. With three homers through 12 games, the 29-year-old is doing a great job of proving that last year's power surge was no fluke. Schimpf's .152 batting average will hold him back in standard fantasy formats, but with second base eligibility, his power makes him a formidable option in deeper formats.

Schimpf notched his second homer of the year -- a two-run shot -- along with a walk and a sacrifice fly in Wednesday's win over Colorado.
EDGE Analysis
After a disappointing 0-for-6 in the first two games of this series at hitter-friendly Coors Field, Schimpf finally woke up for the last one. A revelation with his 20 homers in 89 games out of nowhere as a 28-year-old rookie last season, Schimpf has gotten off to a slow start with the bat this year, as he's still hitting just .160. However, he's also drawn nine walks, taking the edge off his unsavory total of 11 strikeouts in 26 at-bats.

Schimpf is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Giants, Bill Center of Padres.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
With lefty Madison Bumgarner set to toe the rubber for the Giants, Schimpf will get the day off as switch-hitting Luis Sardinas takes over at third base. The 28-year-old hit just .157 across 51 at-bats against southpaws last season, compared to .231 against righties, so this shouldn't come as too much of a surprise.

Schimpf went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's loss to the Dodgers.
EDGE Analysis
The Padres' starting third baseman got his 2017 season started on the right foot. Schimpf's homer was the lone bright spot in an otherwise uneventful offensive day for San Diego. The fact the he got a start against a southpaw -- homering off the best lefty in the game nonetheless -- shows the confidence manager Andy Green has in the 28-year-old. Schimpf was already considered a viable deep and NL-only option, but he could be worth a look in mixed formats as a power bat, especially in leagues where he retained second base eligibility.

With Cory Spangeberg's demotion, Schimpf will begin the year as the Padres' starting third baseman.
EDGE Analysis
Schimpf had a solid spring (.286 with two home runs) despite missing a couple of weeks with a minor back injury. The competition between him and Cory Spangenberg came down to the final weekend of exhibition play, so it was a bit surprising that the club decided to option the latter to the minors. However, with Spangenberg out of the picture, Schimpf will have little standing between him and everyday at-bats. The 28-year-old came out of nowhere last season to club 20 homers in just 330 plate appearances. The third baseman's 17.7 percent HR/FB ratio last season raises red flags, but it would be foolish to prorate his 20 homers in 89 games over the course of a full season anyways. Expecting a regression, however, and still penciling him as a potential 20-plus homer bat isn't outlandish. He could be a drag on batting average (.217 last season), but he also expressed an ability to get on base at a decent clip (.336 on-base percentage), so he definitely has more value in leagues that count on-base percentage. With second base eligibility, Schimpf is a must-grab infielder in deep and NL-only formats, and is also worth a flyer in standard formats.

Schimpf went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run in Monday's 12-2 win over Seattle.
EDGE Analysis
The homer was the infielder's second in his last four starts (4-for-10 over that span). The recent power surge gives fantasy owners a glimpse of what Schimpf brings to the table (power at the expense of batting average). He is currently locked in a position battle with Cory Spangenberg for the Padres' starting third base gig, but continued success at the plate will only help the 28-year-old's bid as we inch closer to Opening Day.

Schimpf went 1-for-2 with his first home run of the spring in Thursday's win over the Angels.
EDGE Analysis
Schmipf -- who is currently competing for the Padres' starting third base job -- missed a couple weeks of action due to an oblique injury. Thursday's homer is a good sign that the minor issue is no longer bothering him. It is unclear who manager Andy Green will name as his starter at the hot corner to open the year, but the slugging infielder is worth a flyer for some power upside if he wins the job out of camp.

Schimpf (oblique) is back in the lineup against the Giants on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
He will hit second and man third base in Cactus League play, with Erick Aybar starting at shortstop and Luis Sardinas starting at second base. The plan is for Schimpf to compete for starts at third base this season with Cory Spangenberg, and to a lesser degree, Yangervis Solarte, who is expected to see the bulk of his playing time at the keystone.

Schmipf (oblique) is scheduled to play in a minor-league game Monday, MLB.com's AJ Cassavell reports.
EDGE Analysis
Schimpf has been sidelined with left oblique tightness in recent days, but after going through a full workout Sunday without complications, the Padres will have him tests things out in a game setting. It's expected that Schimpf will receive at least four at-bats Monday, and if all goes well, he could be back in Cactus League action Wednesday.
