The Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo expects Ryan Kalish to platoon with Jonny Gomes in left field next season. The Red Sox said after signing Gomes that they didn't plan on platooning him, but Cafardo isn't buying it. Shoulder issues have stalled Kalish's development in recent years, but he's healthy now and remains an intriguing mix of power and speed to go along with some on-base skills. Daniel Nava is another guy that could wind up seeing a good number of at-bats against right-handed pitching.

According to Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe, Ryan Kalish claims he feels the best he has in two years, and that he's fully regained strength in his injured right shoulder. Kalish played in just 36 games with the Red Sox in 2012, hitting .229/.272/.260 with five RBI in 96 at-bats. If he's as healthy as he claims, he could compete for a corner outfield spot during spring training.

Ryan Kalish (shoulder) was used as a pinch-runner in Wednesday's loss to the visiting Rays. Kalish is not allowed to swing a bat for the rest of the season because of lingering discomfort in his right shoulder, but he is still contributing off the Boston bench.

Ryan Kalish (shoulder) has been shut down for the season. Kalish said his right shoulder, which is not the one he had surgically-repaired, has been feeling sore and tired. There's a chance he could be used as a pinch-runner, but the Red Sox don't feel the need to use him anymore.

Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said Ryan Kalish's playing time since his call-up has been limited due to a shoulder injury. Kalish has said that he's fine physically, but Bobby V disagrees. "His shoulder is keeping him from swinging in a game," Valentine said. "... He's not really a game-ready guy." Kalish had surgery last November to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder.

The Red Sox are expected to option outfielder Ryan Kalish to Triple-A Pawtucket on Friday. The move will clear a roster spot for Scott Podsednik, who has reportedly re-joined the Red Sox on a major league deal. Kalish is batting .203 (16-for-79) with three doubles, five RBI, three stolen bases and a .488 OPS in 25 games played with Boston this season. He figures to return when rosters expand in September.
