Gsellman could see save chances with Jeurys Familia landing on the 10-day disabled list Friday with right shoulder soreness.
EDGE Analysis
Since a four-run hiccup May 2, Gsellman has been quite good, posting a 2.61 ERA and 1.16 WHIP over 20.2 innings. He's also racked up a couple saves in that span, seemingly putting him next in line for save chances behind Familia. AJ Ramos (shoulder) was brought in last season to fortify the back end, but he was a mess before landing on the DL, and Anthony Swarzak just returned from a DL stint of his own. Seth Lugo, meanwhile, has been thrust into starting duty.

Gsellman is an option to start the second game of Monday's doubleheader against the Braves, but he won't be stretched out if he does get the assignment, Kristie Ackert of The New York Daily News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mets manager Mickey Callaway has apparently been paying attention to what the Rays have been up to, and he's considering deploying Gsellman or Seth Lugo for an abbreviated "start" much like the ones Sergei Romo has been making. Lugo seems the more likely candidate of the two, however, as Gsellman has become a key part of the late-inning mix in front of closer Jeurys Familia. If either of them do get the nod, don't expect them to pitch more than 2-3 innings, making it impossible for them to pick up a win and limiting their fantasy appeal for the day.

Gsellman tossed 1.2 perfect innings and struck out three during Sunday's win against Arizona as he nabbed his first save of the season.
EDGE Analysis
Gsellman was deployed with one out in the eight and recorded the last five outs of the ballgame as he slammed the door for his first save on the year -- he'd blown three save opportunities earlier in the season. The 24-year-old right-hander has been a reliable option out of the bullpen for the Mets thus far, sporting a 2.76 ERA and 1.19 WHIP to go along with 28 strikeouts across 29.1 innings.

Gsellman ran his record to 2-0 in Friday's extra-inning win over the Braves, tossing two scoreless innings of relief and allowing a hit and a walk while striking out three.
EDGE Analysis
Since losing out on a rotation spot this spring, Gsellman has emerged as a key component in a stacked Mets bullpen. The right-hander now sports a 2.19 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 18:5 K:BB in 12.1 innings over 10 appearances, and his two wins and supplemented by three holds. With versatile, but still dominant, long relievers becoming all the rage around MLB thanks to the Astros' success with pitchers in that role, Gsellman could be the latest arm to offer big strikeout numbers and plus ratios from the bullpen.

Gsellman struck out the side in a perfect eighth inning during Wednesday's 4-1 win over the Marlins to pick up his second hold of the season.
EDGE Analysis
Squeezed out of the rotation mix in the spring, Gsellman has instead been dominant out of the bullpen for the Mets, posting a 1.29 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 12:2 K:BB through six appearances and seven innings. It would likely take a couple of injuries to get him in contention for the closer spot, but in fantasy leagues where setup men with big strikeout rates have value, Gsellman should be rostered.

Gsellman could be a part of a likely bullpen game for the Mets on April 11 in Miami, Tim Britton of The Athletic New York reports.
EDGE Analysis
Seth Lugo, who was outstanding in two innings of relief Tuesday, is the other name to keep an eye on as a potential starter in that game, with the other pitcher likely piggybacking the start. Jason Vargas (hand) could join the rotation April 13, and if that happens, Lugo and Gsellman would return to full-time long relief roles. Gsellman has struck out four batters while surrendering two hits in 1.2 innings of relief this year, and could develop into a quality ratio/strikeout play in deeper leagues.

Gsellman is likely to open the season in the Mets' bullpen, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
With relievers Hansel Robles and Rafael Montero posting spring ERAs of 9 or above, the Mets could turn to Gsellman and Seth Lugo to fill out their bullpen. Gsellman has just four major-league relief appearances to his name, but it's possible his stuff will play up in the pen. Whether or not it does, he's likely to make at least a handful of starts this season when other Mets' starters get injured.

Gsellman threw 3.2 innings Wednesday in relief of Zack Wheeler, allowing one unearned run on two hits and a walk without striking out a batter.
EDGE Analysis
The 24-year-old has a superficially solid 3.12 ERA and 0.92 WHIP through 8.2 spring innings, but Gsellman's 2:1 K:BB isn't the kind of performance that suggests a regular-season breakout is coming. The Mets continue to stretch him out in case he's needed in the rotation to begin the year, but the righty will likely head to the bullpen and a long relief role come Opening Day.

Gsellman is likely to start the season in the bullpen, NJ.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Every team needs more than just five starters, especially the Mets, given their high amount of injury-prone pitchers, so it's likely Gsellman will make some starts this season regardless of where he opens the year. When everyone is healthy, though, Gsellman is behind Steven Matz, Zack Wheeler and possibly Seth Lugo for the fifth starter job. The 24-year-old righty struggled to a 5.19 ERA in 119.2 innings last year and could be better suited to the pen, where his velocity can increase in shorter outings.

Gsellman (8-7) held the Braves to a single run on six hits and a walk over six innings en route to a 7-1 win Wednesday. He struck out four.
EDGE Analysis
This was a hard season for Gsellman, but at least he was able to finish on a strong note even if his final numbers -- a 5.19 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 82:42 K:BB over 119.2 innings -- can best be described as fantasy poison. He'll have the whole offseason now to figure out where things went wrong in 2017.
