Gsellman is expected to open the season as the Mets' fourth starter, Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
Another scoreless outing last week brought Gsellman's spring ERA and WHIP down to 1.56 and 1.10, respectively, and effectively cemented the right-hander into the Opening Day rotation. With Steven Matz battling an elbow injury, Zack Wheeler and Seth Lugo are the top candidates to serve as the No. 5 starter to begin the year, according to Heyman. Now that he has a job locked up, Gsellman will likely gain some helium in drafts, but there's still a lot to like even at an increased cost.

Gsellman allowed one run on four hits and a walk while striking out three over five innings in Saturday's Grapefruit League game against the Cardinals.
EDGE Analysis
He continues to reel off solid performances as he looks to lock up the Mets' fifth starter role to begin the season. Gsellman now sports a 2.25 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 7:3 K:BB through 12 spring innings.

Gsellman gave up one hit and struck out one in three shutout innings during Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Marlins.
EDGE Analysis
He continues to put together a solid spring, posting a 2.57 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 4:1 K:BB through seven innings. At the moment Gsellman is considered the favorite for the Mets' fifth starter spot coming out of camp, but Seth Lugo may have something to say about that when he returns from the WBC.

Gsellman is expected to be the fifth starter to begin the 2017 season, Matt Ehalt of The Record reports.
EDGE Analysis
Zack Wheeler, on the other hand, probably will start the year at extended spring training as he continues to endure a long recovery from 2015 Tommy John surgery. Gsellman delivered a promising 2016 stint (2.42 ERA, 8.46 K/9, 3.02 BB/9 in 44.2 innings), but this early news of him likely occupying a rotation spot may spill the beans on the deep-league sleeper value he might've had on fantasy draft day. Even with his secret out, the right-hander can stand out in the back end of a mixed-league rotation for as long as he holds the job.

Gsellman is not being considered for a bullpen spot to begin the season if he doesn't win the fifth starter job, as the Mets want to keep him stretched out, The New York Daily News reports.
EDGE Analysis
If Gsellman isn't able to beat out Seth Lugo for the opening in the rotation to begin the season, he'll head back to Triple-A instead. That does make him a slightly riskier fantasy pick in leagues drafting early in the spring, but Gsellman's impressive 2016 performance does make him the favorite to win the battle with Lugo, and given the difficulty the rest of the Mets' rotation had staying healthy last season, any demotion might be very temporary.

Gsellman will not be able to swing a bat for two weeks as he recovers from labrum surgery, Marc Carig of Newsday reports.
EDGE Analysis
Gsellman was unable to swing a bat last season as well, one of the first signs he would need surgery on his non-throwing shoulder this offseason. He is currently competing with Robert Lugo for the fifth spot in the Mets' starting rotation after posting a 2.42 ERA and a 42:15 K:BB ratio over seven starts last season. Despite the hindrance, Gsellman is expected to fully participate in all pitching activities during spring training.

Gsellman will likely begin the season as the Mets' fifth starter, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Zack Wheeler should eventually get a shot at the rotation, but after losing almost two entire seasons to Tommy John surgery, the Mets are going to treat him with kid gloves until he proves his arm can hold up. That leaves the door open for Gsellman to claim the fifth starter role after he impressed in seven starts last year, although Seth Lugo will also be in the running for the job this spring. Given the shaky medical histories of the rest of New York's rotation, even if Wheeler works his way back into a starting role, Gsellman could still see plenty of action for the Mets in 2017.

Gsellman will undergo arthroscopic surgery Wednesday to repair a partially torn labrum in his left shoulder, Adam Rubin of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The injury did not prevent Gsellman from pitching in 2016 because the damage was to his non-throwing shoulder, but it did prevent him from taking swings at the plate, and the decision was ultimately made to send him under the knife so he does not enter next season with any limitations. Gsellman will need at least three weeks to recover from Wednesday's procedure, but he is expected to be back at 100 percent when spring training begins.

Gsellman will look into having surgery this offseason on the partially torn labrum in his non-pitching shoulder, ESPN's Adam Rubin reports.
EDGE Analysis
He was unable to swing a bat while at the big league level and for part of his time with Triple-A Las Vegas, so it's an issue he will be addressing this offseason. However, this shouldn't affect his status for spring training. Gsellman's excellent performance with the big league club this year would seem to have earned him a spot in the 2017 rotation, and while he should regress at least slightly, the Mets may have yet another excellent young starting pitcher in tow.

Gsellman (4-2) gave up an earned run on seven hits and a walk over six innings in Friday's 5-1 victory over the Phillies. He struck out seven.
EDGE Analysis
The rookie right-hander was masterful over his time on the mound, notching 13 swinging strikes and keeping the Phillies off balance throughout the night. Gsellman has now stymied Philadelphia over his last two starts, giving up only Friday's earned run over 13 innings, while also notching 15 strikeouts over that span. The 23-year-old wraps up a stellar first season with a 4-2 record, 2.42 ERA and 42 strikeouts over 44.2 innings.
