Weeks is batting leadoff Tuesday and playing DH. With lefty C.J. Wilson on the mound, it is no surprise to see Weeks in the lineup, as that is the plan going forward against southpaws. However, Weeks being in the leadoff spot is noteworthy for those in daily leagues, as it will increase his chances of getting to five plate appearances in a game. Look for Dustin Ackley to be back in the outfield and for Nelson Cruz to move back to DH Wednesday against righty Matt Shoemaker.

Weeks will get a game at first base sometime this week, MLB.com's Greg Johns reports. Manager Lloyd McClendon said Weeks is working well in his time at first base so far this spring, and has earned a start in game action. Given Logan Morrison's injury history, the Mariners need a backup option at first base, and that appears to be Weeks. The former second baseman will also be on the short side of a left field platoon with Dustin Ackley, so he should get enough at-bats this year to be useful in deeper AL-only leagues.

Weeks is hitting at the leadoff position for Wednesday's game and may find himself in the number one spot during the regular season, Ryan Divish of Seattle Times reports. Weeks batted leadoff in 623 of his 1,026 career starts with the Brewers. He batted .265/.353/.445 with 125 doubles, 22 triples and 100 home runs. Until Wednesday, the Mariners had endorsed Austin Jackson as their leadoff man (.276/.337/.405 at leadoff in 622 of 695 his career starts). Manager Lloyd McClendon is playing around with the line up and throughout the season, may switch up who is leadoff man. Weeks is expected to split time in left field with Dustin Ackley, and he is also a candidate for the second spot in the order along with Seth Smith and Justin Ruggiano.

Weeks will start getting work at first base in the near future, but he may not be deployed there in games for a while, the Tacoma News Tribune's Bob Dutton reports. The Mariners are probably hoping Logan Morrison really takes to being the everyday first baseman this season, but given his injury history, having Weeks start at first against the occasional lefty would make some sense. Depending on your league, this could lead to further position eligibility for Weeks, but first-base eligibility rarely moves the needle much.

Weeks suffered a minor hamstring injury in Tuesday's spring training game, but is expected to return to the field in the near future, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports. Weeks will not play Wednesday, but it appears the injury won't hold him out long. Assuming he returns in short order, he's slated to serve as the backup at first base and left field for the Mariners this season, receiving starts against lefties in left field as part of a platoon with Dustin Ackley.

This should not come as a surprise, as Weeks fares much better against lefties, while Dustin Ackley is better against righties. Weeks has a .261/.385/.448 career slash line against southpaws, and could see 250-300 plate appearances via this platoon in 2015. In addition, it is worth noting that Weeks, not Willie Bloomquist, will be Logan Morrison's backup at first base, which could add to Weeks' value in NL-only leagues.

Weeks will work out primarily in left field in spring training and might platoon with Dustin Ackley, the Tacoma News Tribune reports. Manager Lloyd McClendon didn't call it a platoon, but that's how he described it. "I think the combination of both of those guys out there should produce a left fielder where you have a combination of 20-25 home runs and 100-plus RBIs," McClendon said. "Now, you've got something." A platoon was an obvious option when the Mariners signed Weeks, but McClendon's description makes it seem likely to happen.

Weeks agreed to a one-year, $2 million contract with the Mariners on Wednesday, ESPN reports.This is a bit of surprise that could have ramifications up and down the roster. According to the report, Weeks will play left and right field in addition to second base, though he has never played outfield in his career. If Weeks plays outfield, the Mariners can get away with a four-man bench, which allows manager Lloyd McClendon to keep an eight-man bullpen. It also means that the loser of the shortstop battle between Brad Miller and Chris Taylor will be sent back to Triple-A, assuming utility man Willie Bloomquist's injured knee proves healthy.

The Brewers declined the $14.5 million option on Weeks, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel's Tom Haudricourt reports. This is certainly not surprising, given how much his play has declined at the plate and in the field. He will probably need to move off second base in order to see regular at-bats on a team next season, but if he is willing to do so, the Brewers may look to bring him back on a lesser contract. His fantasy value for 2015 won't be clear until he signs.

Weeks went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and two runs scored against the Reds on Thursday. Weeks filled in for the injured Scooter Gennett (thigh) and came through offensively. However, he also committed a costly error on a dropped fly ball. The Brewers were eliminated from the playoffs Thursday, so the team has no incentive to bring Gennett back in a hurry, leaving a possibility for more starts at second base for Weeks.
