Patrick Corbin will start for the Diamondbacks in their regular-season opener against the Dodgers. That game will be played on March 22 at the Sydney Cricket Ground in Australia. D'Backs manager Kirk Gibson made the announcement Monday on his personal Twitter account, also anointing Trevor Cahill as the Game 2 starter for the two-game set in Sydney. Corbin, 24, went 14-8 with a 3.41 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and 178/54 K/BB ratio in 208 1/3 innings last season for the Snakes.

Patrick Corbin surrendered a pair of runs on four hits in a losing effort to the Rockies in his Cactus League debut Friday. Corbin walked one and struck out a pair in his four innings of work. All of the damage against him came on a two-run blast off the bat of Ryan Casteel in the third inning. The young southpaw enters the season as the ace of the D'Backs staff after a breakthrough campaign in 2013.

Patrick Corbin struggled in a no-decision against the Rockies on Sunday, surrendering four runs on 10 hits over 4 1/3 innings. Corbin struck out three and walked two on the afternoon. He was staked to an early 7-0 lead, but couldn't work his way through five innings to earn his 15th victory. He'll head into his final start of the season against the Nationals on Friday with a 3.28 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 171/52 K/BB ratio over 203 1/3 innings.

The Diamondbacks will not shut down Patrick Corbin. Corbin was lit up for six runs over two innings Tuesday and holds a 7.76 ERA over his last five starts. He's feeling fine physically, though, so the D'Backs will let him finish out the season. Corbin has tossed 199 frames this year after totaling 186 1/3 in 2012.

Corbin will take a 14-6 record and 2.92 ERA into a rematch with these same Dodgers next week.

Patrick Corbin gave up five earned runs on nine hits over just five innings in Sunday's loss to the Giants. Corbin has struggled in back-to-back starts after allowing nine runs (eight earned) in his last outing. He had one walk and managed six strikeouts despite being pulled at 87 pitches. After starting the season 9-0, Corbin is now 13-5 with a 2.96 ERA. He'll get a rematch against the Giants in his next start.

Patrick Corbin undoubtedly had a worse Sunday than you, allowing nine runs -- eight runs -- on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings against the Phillies. Corbin struck out four and walked three in by far his worst start of the year. Philly nicked the left-hander for four runs in the first and John Mayberry Jr.'s two-run homer in the fourth pushed the Phillie lead to 6-0. Kirk Gibson kept a tiring Corbin in the game to pitch the sixth, a bad idea that led to three more runs. Corbin falls to 13-4 with a 2.79 ERA.

Patrick Corbin allowed two runs in a complete-game, 5-2 victory over the Reds on Tuesday. Corbin made one mistake that Chris Heisey deposited into the left field seats, but otherwise the young lefty was brilliant. He finished with 10 strikeouts and didn't walk a batter, allowing six hits in total. It was incredibly the 24-year-old's first win since July 23, moving him to 13-3 with a 2.45 ERA. He'll take the mound again Sunday at the Phillies.

Patrick Corbin surrendered three earned runs in six innings Saturday in a loss to the Red Sox. Corbin looked over-matched -- a rare sight this season. He allowed eight hits and walked two batters, falling to 12-3 on the year. The exciting young left-hander should be able to bounce back in his next start at home against the light-hitting Mets. He boasts a brilliant 2.33 ERA and 1.02 WHIP in 22 starts this season.
