Markakis (personal) is back in the lineup for Friday's matchup with the Diamondbacks.

Markakis had three singles and a double to help the Braves end an eight-game losing streak. Now in his second year with the team, Markakis leads the club in batting average (.305), RBI (19), OBP (.412) and hits (25). He has been a rare bright spot for the worst team in baseball through the first month of the season.

Markakis is hitting .274 with 15 RBI and eight runs in 73 at-bats this season. He also leads the Braves with nine extra-base hits.

EDGE Analysis

All nine of those hits are doubles, which is a league high. Markakis has nine of the 30 extra-base hits Atlanta has recorded through 20 games. No other National League team has fewer than 48 extra-base hits.

Markakis has no home runs in 68 at-bats this season.

The 32-year-old has hit just three homers in 680 at-bats with the Braves over the last two seasons. In nine prior years in Baltimore, Markakis never had a season with fewer than 10 bombs and hit at least 15 five times. The lack of power has been a problem for the entire Braves lineup. Atlanta has gone homerless for over 14 straight games for the first time since 1970.

Markakis is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Dodgers, Kevin McAlpin of the Braves Radio Network reports.

Markakis saw a five-game hitting streak come to an end Wednesday and the Braves are facing Dodgers southpaw Clayton Kershaw on Thursday, so manager Fredi Gonzalez decided to give him his first day off of the season. Jeff Francoeur will get the start in right field in Markakis' place.

Wednesday's start marks Markakis' fifth straight atop the batting order. Markakis has been one of the lone bright spots for the Braves in the early going, as he leads the club in batting average (.327) and OBP (.421), and leads all of baseball with nine doubles. It looks like Markakis will continue to set the table until Ender Inciarte (hamstring) returns, with Mallex Smith now batting eighth.

Markakis went 9-for-25 (.360) with five doubles and eight RBI in seven games last week.
