Ahmed is out of the lineup Saturday against the Pirates. Ahmed has been in quite the funk at the plate recently, recording just one hit in his last six games (21 at-bats). Cliff Pennington will start at short and bat eighth Saturday.

Ahmed went 1-for-3 with a run scored and a walk Wednesday in an 8-5 win over the Rangers. Ahmed broke a four-game, 15 at-bat hitless slump with a double in the seventh inning. He is struggling mightily at the plate with just a .136/.240/.159 batting line, which is making it tough for him to add any offensive value through steals or runs because he is not getting on base. Until he turns things around, he is droppable in most leagues.

Ahmed was 0-for-4 with an RBI and a strikeout Tuesday in a 7-1 loss to the Rangers. This is the fourth straight game Ahmed has gone without a hit, lowering his batting line to .122/.217/.122 on the season. While he has had some bad luck (he has a .185 BABIP on the season), his 30% strike out rate makes it pretty clear that he is over matched at the plate. Look for Ahmed to get a day off to clear his head if he doesn't get a couple of hits to drop soon.

Ahmed's struggles at the plate continued Friday, as he went 0-for-5 with two strikeouts in a 9-0 win over San Francisco. Ahmed is just 4-for-22 over his last seven games and has managed just a .161/.257/.161 line through 35 plate appearances thus far. He has actually managed a walk rate in line with his minor league record at 8.6%, but he is just not making enough contact, striking out in a quarter of his at-bats. While the Diamondbacks value his defensive contribution, Ahmed looks overmatched at the plate in the majors and could end up back at Triple-A soon if he can't make some adjustments.

Ahmed is not in the lineup Monday against the Padres. Ahmed has struggled at the plate so far, hitting just 3-for-16 with five strikeouts, but it appears to be just a normal day off. Chris Owings will take over at short, batting second, while Aaron Hill will assume second base duties and bat seventh.

Ahmed was 2-for-4 with a strikeout Sunday in a 7-4 loss to the Dodgers. While his teammates were getting dominated by Dodgers' starter Zack Greinke, Ahmed got two singles off of him. This was Ahmed's first multi-hit game of the season and a welcome relief to his slow start. Ahmed is still batting just .188, but he has drawn a couple of walks to boost his on-base percentage to .316. With the caliber of his glove, he doesn't need to hit a ton to stay in the lineup and if he can string together a few solid days at the plate it should solidify his position.

Ahmed went 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout Saturday in a 6-0 win over the Dodgers. Ahmed is really struggling at the plate to start the year, going just 1-for-12 (.083), although he has drawn two walks for a still-brutal .267 OBP. It was a surprise that Ahmed made the D-Backs out of spring training and he could be sent down for more seasoning at Triple-A if the team feels he is overmatched at the plate. He could add some steals in fantasy, but, as the saying goes, you can't steal first so until he is reaching base more often his upside is limited.

Ahmed is out of the Diamondbacks' lineup Wednesday against the Giants. Ahmed, who went 1-for-5 with two strikeouts, a walk and a HBP in the team's first two games, will sit as Cliff Pennington takes over at short and bats eighth against Chris Heston. While Ahmed is the primary option at short, manager Chip Hale has done a fair amount of juggling with his lineup in the early going and that figures to continue moving forward.

Ahmed was 0-for-1 with a walk on Opening Day before being pinch hit for in the eighth inning in a 5-4 loss to the Giants. He was also hit by a pitch. Reaching base twice from the eighth spot in the batting order against San Francisco ace Madison Bumgarner will keep Ahmed in the DBacks good graces. Ahmed is expected back at shortstop Tuesday for the Diamondbacks when they face Ryan Vogelsong.

Ahmed (hip) is in the starting lineup for Monday's Opening Day game against the Giants. Ahmed left Saturday's spring training game after getting plunked by a pitch, but appears to be fine as the regular season commences. Assuming nothing occurs Monday, he should be good to go moving forward.
