Mike Carp (shoulder) is expected to play the outfield Thursday with Triple-A Tacoma for the first time on his minor league rehab assignment. Carp has been the DH in his first six games, batting .167 (4-for-24) with a double and two RBI. He'll likely need to make it through a few games in the outfield before the Mariners consider activating him from the disabled list.

Mike Carp (shoulder) will begin a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma on Friday. Carp reported no issues following a Wednesday intrasquad game, and could return early next week. He's already eligible to come off the disabled list, but will likely spend at least the weekend in Triple-A. He should be in line for plenty of at-bats in left field upon his activation.

Mariners placed OF Mike Carp on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained shoulder. Tough break for the Mariners. Carp injured the shoulder diving for Kurt Suzuki's line drive double in the fourth inning Thursday. Carlos Peguero has been recalled to take Carp's place on the active roster and will likely share time in left field with Casper Wells. Chone Figgins could also see increased time in the outfield with Kyle Seager taking over at third base.

The Mariners are expected to hold an open competition for their starting left field job this season. Carp proved to be a viable hitter last season and remains the projected starter. Casper Wells, who was acquired from Detroit in a midseason trade, is also expected to ''be in the mix.'' Carlos Guillen, Chone Figgins, and Trayvon Robinson are all considered semi-regular options.

Mike Carp went 5-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI in Tuesday's 5-4 victory against the Twins. The monster game raised his batting average 14 points, from .277 to .291. It was the first five-hit game of Carp's career. He entered the contest hitting only .206 with a .672 OPS in September, cooling off from monster July and Augusts, where he hit .349 (.959 OPS) and .313 (.898), respectively. Keep in mind that most of his success this month came yesterday, when Carp had a grand slam and an RBI double in a rain-shortened game against the Indians. If mixed leaguers stuck with him through his struggles, they are being rewarded handsomely this week.
