Boyd (5-9) gave up four runs on seven hits and a pair of walks over six-plus innings Wednesday, suffering a loss against the Royals. He struck out four.
EDGE Analysis
The 26-year-old lefty battled opposing starter Jason Hammel to a 2-2 tie through six, but Boyd came out for the seventh and promptly gave up a pair of doubles before being removed; the bullpen then allowed the game to turn into a 13-2 rout. A star in the minors, Boyd has yet to put it all together at the big-league level, as his 5.93 ERA clearly indicates. He should be deployed with great caution (if at all) down the stretch.

Boyd gave up only one run on five hits and two walks over five innings while striking out five Friday, but he had to settle for a no-decision in a 3-2 loss to Cleveland.
EDGE Analysis
The lefty ran up his pitch count in what was otherwise a strong performance, throwing 61 of 98 pitches for strikes before exiting the game with the score knotted at 1-1. Boyd should remain in the Tigers rotation for the rest of the season with Justin Verlander in Houston and Michael Fulmer (elbow) shut down, but his 6.19 ERA in the second half doesn't inspire a lot of confidence.

Boyd (5-8) allowed five runs on seven hits and one walk across six innings while taking the loss Sunday against the White Sox. He struck out seven.
EDGE Analysis
Boyd was actually quite effective aside from a third-inning collapse in which he allowed five runs on five runs on five hits, including a three-run home run by Matt Davidson. He threw a hefty 74 percent of pitches for strikes, including first-pitch strikes to 23 of 26 batters, but he was made to pay for numerous location errors. Boyd has endured a miserable run of form lately, allowing a whopping 25 earned runs over 23.2 innings over his last six outings. He will take a disappointing 6.32 ERA into Friday's start against the Indians.

Manager Brad Ausmus was critical of Boyd following Tuesday's outing (seven runs allowed in 2.1 innings), but said the left-hander will likely remain in the rotation with the Tigers out of the playoff hunt, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Ausmus was fairly blunt in his comments about Boyd, who's given up 17 earned runs on 23 hits and nine walks over his last 13.1 innings. "At some point, there's an expiration date on how much rope you're given," Ausmus said. "The truth is, (Boyd) is going to have to learn to pitch or there's going to be a move made." However, that move likely won't come this season, as the Tigers are just 54-70 and well out of the race in the American League. "There's no reason to not be patient at this point," Ausmus said. "And I don't think the next month and a week will decide anything definitively. But in the big picture, it can't go on forever."

Boyd (5-7) was slapped with seven runs and a loss after pitching just 2.1 innings against the Yankees on Tuesday. He allowed seven hits and three walks while striking out two.
EDGE Analysis
There have been stretches in which Boyd has played the part of a competent-looking MLB starter, but those must feel like a distant memory to his embattled fantasy owners. Over his last four appearances, Boyd has been mauled for 17 earned runs on 23 hits and nine walks over 13.1 innings; those are fantasy-season-ruining numbers. That said, he's still only 26 and left-handed with spectacular minor-league stats (career 2.49 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, 9.0 K/9), so there's still some long-term appeal here.

Boyd pitched 1.1 innings of relief in Friday's loss to the Dodgers, allowing one run on one hit and two walks, while striking out two.
EDGE Analysis
It was announced earlier in the week that Boyd's next start would be bumped back from Saturday to Tuesday, so it appears the team just wanted to have him throw a bit before then, and he ended up tossing 30 pitches. After surrendering nine runs over his last two starts, Boyd will be looking to get back on track against the Yankees.

Boyd will make his next start Tuesday against the Yankees, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Boyd was initially lined up to start Saturday against the Dodgers, but after the left-hander had surrendered nine runs over his last two outings, manager Brad Ausmus decided it was best to give Boyd some extra time off. Michael Fulmer and Justin Verlander will both be moved up a day in the schedule to pitch on their normal four days' rest Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

Boyd (5-6) recorded a no-decision in Sunday's loss to the Twins. He gave up four earned runs on six hits and three walks over 5.2 innings, while striking out five.
EDGE Analysis
Boyd pitched better than his last start, when he gave up six runs (five earned) on nine hits in just four innings. The young left-hander was victimized by the long ball, as he gave up a home run to Brian Dozier to lead off the game, then allowed a two-run bomb to Miguel Sano in the third inning. Boyd has a tough assignment in his next start, which is scheduled for Saturday against the Dodgers.

Boyd (5-6) allowed six runs (five earned) on nine hits and one walk across four innings in Tuesday's loss to the Pirates. He struck out five.
EDGE Analysis
Boyd threw a hearty 70 percent of his pitches for strikes, but he routinely missed over the plate and paid the price on several occasions. He gave up a run on the third before he was tagged for three in the fourth and two more in the fifth. albeit with an error involved. Boyd appeared to be making strides when he fired off three straight quality starts at the end of July, but he has now allowed nine runs in 8.1 innings over his last two starts. He will try to get back on track Sunday against the Twins.

Boyd allowed three runs on five hits and four walks while striking out six batters through 4.1 innings during Thursday's win over Baltimore. He didn't factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Boyd had to wait through two rain delays before taking the mound, so it's difficult to put too much emphasis on Thursday's outing. Still, the 26-year-old southpaw has struggled to gain any fantasy traction this season with a 5.35 ERA, 1.65 WHIP and 6.7 K/9, and outside of the deepest settings, he's not currently a serviceable option. Boyd projects to face the Pirates at PNC Park in his next start.
