Orioles owner Peter Angelos said he's open to the idea of contract extensions for manager Buck Showalter and executive vice president Dan Duquette.
"If they're interested in staying," Angelos said, "nobody's more interested in keeping him than I am. And certainly I speak for everyone in the organization." Showalter is already under contract for 2013 and said he's content with his deal, though he didn't exactly dismiss the possibility of an extension. "The organization committed to me long before that had to. They had a great deal of faith in me. I've fallen in love with this city. We'll see what happens. That would be an honor. You take every job with the idea that it's going to be your last."

Matt Wieters singled and ripped a solo homer in Monday's loss to the Rays.
Wieters' solo shot that just cleared the short fence in left field tied the game up in the seventh, but the Rays came back in the seventh and eighth with four more runs. The catcher has hit just .250 this year, but it's come along with 23 bombs and 83 RBI.

Matt Wieters is not in the Orioles' lineup Friday, as he's with his wife after she gave birth to the couple's child.
The Orioles haven't said how long he'll be away, but he seems likely to return for Saturday's game with the team fighting for a postseason berth. Taylor Teagarden is starting in Wieters' place Friday.

Matt Wieters finished 2-for-4 but the Orioles were blanked by the Blue Jays on Tuesday night.
The 26-year-old catcher has really stepped it up down the stretch, hitting .338 (26-for-77) with five homers and 17 RBI over 21 games in September. He's firmly entrenched himself as one of the top offensive catchers in the game, and should remain that way for the foreseeable future.

Matt Wieters had two hits and drove home three runs, leading the Orioles to a crucial 4-2 victory over the Red Sox in Boston on Friday.
He finished the night 2-for-4 with a double, run scored, and the aforementioned three RBI. His two-run single off Jon Lester got the O's on the board in the fourth inning, and his RBI single in the sixth gave them the lead to stay. He's been one of the most productive catchers in the league this year, hitting .250/.332/.439 with 22 homers and a team-high 82 RBI.

Matt Wieters hit a pair of homers Sunday as the Orioles beat the A's 9-5.
The O's managed to salvage one game in Oakland, so they gave up just one game to the Yankees and A's the last three days. Now they get the Mariners and Red Sox this week. Wieters' two homers gave him 21 for the year. He's again been a disappointment in the batting average department -- he's at .248 right now -- but as a run producer, he's done a pretty good job in the middle of the Baltimore lineup.

Matt Wieters is not in the Orioles' starting lineup on Thursday afternoon against the Rays.
It's just a routine day off for the talented young catcher, who has played in 127 games this season. Taylor Teagarden got the start behind the plate for Baltimore.
