Shoemaker returned to the rotation with a quality start win Tuesday over the Rays, as he went 6.1 innings and allowed two runs on five hits, struck out five, and walked two. Shoemaker was nominally bumped to the bullpen for a few days because of schedule concerns, but he has allowed two runs or fewer in four of his past five starts and is getting closer to the form he showed last year when he posted a 3.04 ERA. He owns a 17:6 K:BB in his past three starts and has allowed just three earned runs in 18.2 innings (1.44 ERA).

Shoemaker will make his next start Tuesday against the Rays, the Los Angeles Times' Mike DiGiovanna reports. He has been available, although not used, out of the bullpen over the past couple days, in an effort to give him a small rest from starting. When he takes the ball Tuesday it will be on eight days rest, but his general lack of success this year (5.08 ERA) still makes him a risky start.

Shoemaker will come out of the bullpen "for a few days," Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports. The Angels have regular days off built in the schedule for Thursday and the following Monday, so they won't need a fifth rotation option for the remainder of the week. Look for Shoemaker and his 5.08 ERA to serve in long relief for a short period, but return to the starting rotation by next weekend.

Shoemaker earned a no-decision on Sunday against the Tigers, allowing two runs (one earned) through 5.1 innings with five strikeouts and four walks. The 28-year-old was strong through five innings, but his pitch count began to elevate after an Angels error led to an unearned run in the sixth and lost his chance to earn the win. Despite the season-high in walks, Shoemaker was solid for the second consecutive game after surrendering seven runs to the Blue Jays. His ERA still sits at a disappointing 5.08 on the season and he faces an unappealing road matchup against the Yankees in his next scheduled start.

Shoemaker surrendered seven earned runs on eight hits to earn the loss against Toronto on Thursday. Shoemaker got drilled by the Blue Jays on Thursday over six innings, walking two and striking out four. He now holds an ERA of 6.29 with a record of 3-4. He'll get the Padres at home in his next start.

Shoemaker put together his best performance of the season so far on Saturday, allowing just one run on three hits over seven innings and striking out seven to pick up his third win of the year. His fastball was touching 92 mph in the early innings on Saturday, although by his second and third time through the Orioles' batting order it had slipped back to the 88-90 range he's been in all season. The win is nice, but Shoemaker will need to find those lost mph, or at least keep the ball out of the upper half of the strike zone, if he wants to whittle down his 5.63 ERA any further. His next start on Thursday, on the road in Toronto, could be a dangerous one for anyone still invested in Shoemaker.

Shoemaker struggled against the Astros Saturday night, conceding six earned runs in just three innings pitched in the 6-5 loss. Shoemaker is coming off one of his better starts and put up a stinker Saturday, allowing three home runs en route to a loss. Shoemaker sports a disappointing 6.61 ERA and will look to bounce back in his next start against Baltimore next Saturday.

Shoemaker fell to 2-2 on the year Tuesday against the Mariners, but struck out 10 batters in 7.1 innings and only gave up three earned runs on five hits, three of which were solo home runs. Shoemaker hadn't struck out any more than seven batters in a game this season. His biggest weakness all season has been home runs, giving up five in his past three starts, including 2.22 per nine innings this season.

Shoemaker picked up a no-decision Wednesday against the A's as he allowed three runs on six hits and a walk to go with three strikeouts in 5.2 innings. Shoemaker had a 3-1 lead going into the sixth, but Ike Davis doubled in Marcus Semien, and Josh Reddick followed with a single off reliever Cesar Ramos that tied the score at three. In four starts this season, Shoemaker has given up at least three runs in each start. He'll look to produce a solid outing against the Mariners on Monday in his next scheduled start.

Shoemaker was activated from the bereavement list and will start Wednesday's game against Oakland, Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com reports. Cam Bedrosian was optioned to Triple-A late Tuesday in anticipation of Shoemaker's return. Shoemaker left the team last week to tend to a personal issue. The right-hander tossed quality starts in his first two starts of the year but lasted just three innings (five earned runs, seven hits) against these same A's his last time out.
