Reds manager Bryan Price said Mat Latos (knee) is "very close to game-ready."
Latos threw curveballs and sliders in a bullpen session on Tuesday and is soon slated for a live batting practice session. If he completes that without issue, Cincinnati will start thinking about penciling his name into an exhibition game. Price said over the weekend that Latos isn't an option for Opening Day but could be ready for a start on April 6.

Mat Latos (knee) tossed his first bullpen session of the spring on Wednesday in Reds camp.
"No stiffness, no pinch," he told reporters after the workout. Latos underwent surgery in early February to repair a tear of the meniscus in his left knee. The Reds are hoping that he won't have to miss a regular-season start, but there remains no set date for the 26-year-old right-hander's Cactus League debut.

Mat Latos (knee) is scheduled to throw his first bullpen session of the spring on Wednesday.
Latos underwent surgery in early February to repair a tear of the meniscus in his left knee. The Reds are still hopeful that he won't have to miss a regular-season start, but the calendar is working against him. There is no timetable for his Cactus League debut.

Mat Latos (knee) could throw off a mound this week.
Latos needed surgery in early February for a tear of the meniscus in his left knee and then tweaked that same knee last week while doing on-field exercises. The Reds are still holding out hope that he won't miss a regular-season start, but that may be overly optimistic. There's no timetable yet for his Cactus League debut.

Mat Latos admitted that he suffered a "simple flare-up" with his surgically-repaired left knee while doing exercises.
"I aggravated it a little bit doing some extra exercises. It was a simple flare-up, nothing spectacular," Latos said. "It's like anything else. You overwork something and it gets aggravated, whether it's after surgery or not." The righty added that he doesn't consider the aggravation a setback and it's "nothing a little ice can't take care of." Latos is currently long-tossing from over 150 feet and could be cleared to throw off a mound soon.

Mat Latos (knee) said Sunday that he's feeling "fantastic" after doing stretches and some workouts with his Reds teammates.
"I'm just taking it day to day," the pitcher said. Latos underwent surgery to repair a tear in the meniscus of his left knee less than two weeks ago, but he's made nice progress and is expected to be ready to go by Opening Day.

Mat Latos threw for 10 minutes from 45 feet Wednesday, five days after having surgery on his left knee.
The minor surgery to repair a tear in the meniscus of his left knee wasn't supposed to keep him down long, but Latos has exceeded even optimistic expectations in the first few days after the operation. He didn't do any strenuous work, granted, but it's a good sign that he's already feeling well enough to do baseball activities. It's unclear what and when the next step in his recovery will be.

One day after undergoing surgery on his left knee, Mat Latos was walking without crutches at Reds camp.
"Everything feels good," Latos said. "I'm doing stability exercises. I'm able to balance on that leg. I'm walking." Latos had minor surgery to repair a tear in his meniscus after injuring the knee while throwing. The Reds have said they expect Latos to be resume throwing in 10 days, and the injury isn't likely to carry over into the regular season.

Mat Latos underwent surgery Friday to repair a tear in the meniscus of his left knee.
Latos was injured when he slipped while throwing. He's expected to resume his throwing in 10 days, so it's possible he'll still have enough time to get ready for the beginning of the season. Still, it's obviously not an ideal situation. Latos also had an operation earlier this winter to remove bone chips from his right elbow.

Mat Latos said his elbow feels better than it has in the past four years, reports C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer.
Latos underwent surgery on October 11 to remove bone chips from his right elbow. The 25-year-old progressed quickly through physical therapy and will be 100-percent healthy in time for spring training, if he isn't already. Latos went 14-7 with a 3.16 ERA last season.
