Semien enters 2016 in a better place than spring 2015, now clearly slotted in as the A's starting shortstop. Offensively, Semien provided nice fantasy value in 2015, compiling 15 homers to go with 11 stolen bases. Semien's big issue was the large number of errors he had at shortstop, but he seemed to gain comfort and confidence with the leather in the second half under the tutelage of Ron Washington. With the A's lineup stronger in 2016, it is still up in the air where Semien may slot in the lineup which could affect his runs and RBI, but he should be a nice source of speed and power for fantasy owners later in drafts at a thin position.

It's these silly mental errors that is keeping Semien from being a more reliable player and he'll need to clean that up if he wants the A's to trust him going forward. Semien does show some power that most shortstops don't, as he's hit 15 homers this season.

August has been particularly friendly to Semien as he is batting .290 with three homers, 10 runs scored and 10 RBI in 69 at-bats. It's never been a question of hitting for Semien and if he puts it all together, he could be an elite shortstop option going forward.

Semien went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in a 5-4 loss to the Yankees on Wednesday. Make it six straight games with a hit for Semien, who homered off closer Andrew Miller in the ninth inning to draw the A's within one run. He's now hit two homers in July after not recording a single homer in the month of June. The 24-year-old is batting .300/.352/.450 against left-handed pitching but just .247/.291/.389 against right-handers.

Semien is out of the lineup Sunday against the Royals. Semien's bat seems to have gone cold again, as he's failed to register a hit in his last three starts. His much-maligned defense certainly won't keep him on the field when he's a void offensively, so manager Bob Melvin will give the young infielder a rest Sunday and hand shortstop duties over to Eric Sogard.
