Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle was told by multiple sources that the Giants are optimistic about re-signing free agent infielder Marco Scutaro.
While Scutaro is drawing plenty of interest around the league, he's not expected to break the bank and will likely get a two-year contract. The 37-year-old batted .362/.385/.473 in 61 games after being acquired from the Rockies in July and enjoyed an excellent postseason for the World Series champion Giants.

Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports that Marco Scutaro is receiving interest as both a second and third baseman.
Heyman says Scutaro "can do either but prefers second base." He also would hold much more value at second, as he'd be a weak offensive option relative to other third basemen. The Giants want to bring Scutaro back, but he'll have other suitors following his terrific second half and postseason.

Marco Scutaro drove in the game-winning run as the Giants topped the Tigers 4-3 in extra-innings Sunday to finish off a four-game World Series sweep.
Scutaro hit a two-out single off Phil Coke in the top of the tenth inning to give the Giants the lead and Sergio Romo came on and struck out the side to finish off the victory. After taking home NLCS MVP honors, Scutaro finishes his 2012 postseason with a .328 batting average and .767 OPS over 16 games. Pablo Sandoval has been named MVP of the World Series.

Marco Scutaro went 3-for-4 and scored a run in Monday's NLCS Game 7 victory over the Cardinals.
He also drew a walk, reaching base in four of five trips to the dish. Scutaro wound up batting .500 for the series, scoring six runs while driving in four. Unsurprisingly, he took home NLCS MVP honors. The Giants outscored the Cardinals 20-1 over the final three games to complete their second improbable comeback this postseason. They'll open up the World Series against the Tigers in San Francisco Wednesday.

Marco Scutaro went 2-for-3 with a double in Sunday's Game 6 win over the Cardinals.
Scutaro was briefly trending on twitter after his two-run double in the second inning. In six NLCS games, he's batting .478 (11-for-23) with three doubles, four RBI, and five runs. He'll look to extended his hitting streak to 10 games Monday in the series-finale against the Cardinals.

Marco Scutaro (hip) will take grounders and batting practice Wednesday to make sure he's ready to play in Game 3 of the NLCS against the Cardinals.
Scutaro is already penciled in the lineup for Game 3, but the Giants want to see how his left hip and knee respond to baseball activity. It appears likely he'll play, but Ryan Theriot will start at second base if he doesn't feel up to it.

Marco Scutaro (hip) is in the lineup for Game 3 of the NLCS against the Cardinals on Wednesday.
Scutaro suffered a muscle strain in his left hip when he was plowed into by the Cardinals' Matt Holliday on a takeout slide at second base, but he's going to try to give it a go. Of course, the weather forecast in St. Louis isn't exactly promising, so there's a chance Game 3 will be postponed.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy said there's a "good chance" Marco Scutaro (hip) will play in NLCS Game 3.
An MRI taken Tuesday revealed a muscle strain in Scutaro's hip. But the second baseman traveled with the team to St. Louis and should be cleared to play on Wednesday if his workouts leading up to Game 3 go smoothly. He was

Marco Scutaro (hip) traveled to St. Louis with the Giants but his status for NLCS Game 3 is unclear.
An MRI taken Tuesday on Scutaro's hip revealed a muscle strain. He suffered the injury Monday when he was plowed into by the Cardinals' Matt Holliday on a takeout slide at second base. The Giants are calling him day-to-day. Ryan Theriot could be asked to fill in on Wednesday.

X-rays on Marco Scutaro's left hip came back negative.
He's set to undergo an MRI. Giants manager Bruce Bochy said the second baseman is "pretty sore," but he's hopeful he'll be ready to play in Game 3 after the off day Tuesday. Scutaro was injured in the first inning of Monday's game when Matt Holliday took him out on a rough slide at second base.
