Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle was told by multiple sources that the Giants are optimistic about re-signing free agent infielder Marco Scutaro. While Scutaro is drawing plenty of interest around the league, he's not expected to break the bank and will likely get a two-year contract. The 37-year-old batted .362/.385/.473 in 61 games after being acquired from the Rockies in July and enjoyed an excellent postseason for the World Series champion Giants.

Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports that Marco Scutaro is receiving interest as both a second and third baseman. Heyman says Scutaro "can do either but prefers second base." He also would hold much more value at second, as he'd be a weak offensive option relative to other third basemen. The Giants want to bring Scutaro back, but he'll have other suitors following his terrific second half and postseason.
