It is noteworthy that Williamson is getting the nod with a righty on the mound, as he had previously been typically used when a lefty was on the mound for the opposition. Of course, he has two home runs in his last eight at-bats, so manager Bruce Bochy might just be going with the hot hand. If the Giants don't upgrade their outfield at the trade deadline, Williamson could see the bulk of the starts in right field while Hunter Pence (hamstring) continues his rehab.

Williamson went 1-for-3 with a three-run homer and two strikeouts against the Red Sox on Wednesday.

He got the start against Boston lefty Drew Pomeranz and paid off the decision with his fourth-inning blast. Williamson's been able to translate his pop from the minors to the majors, but his last multi-hit game was June 23, so it's no surprise he's hitting a meager .227.

Williamson -- who is known for his power -- looked like a defensive wizard in right field Tuesday, saving at least three runs on two separate diving plays. While the defense isn't helping anyone in fantasy, it does help Williamson's stock for seeing more regular playing time if he can prove he is not a liability in the field. Blanco could be healthy enough to play Wednesday, but Williamson should still get the start with a lefty on the bump for the Rockies.

The three hits were a single-game career high for Williamson, and boosted his average by more than 60 points -- from .182 to .243.

EDGE Analysis

Williamson has now hit everywhere except first, second and fifth in the Giants' order this season. He is coming off a game Wednesday where he got on base four times (three via the walk). The Giants are resting several veteran regulars Thursday, so Williamson won't typically hit in this advantageous of a spot in the lineup, but it's clear that manager Bruce Bochy isn't opposed to putting him in a position to drive in runs when the opportunity presents itself.
