There are a few poor outings in the game log for Severino, but with a 3.21 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 10.1 K/9, he's establishing himself as a high-end fantasy asset. His 3.02 FIP also reinforces the lofty status. Additionally, considering how well he's pitched, there is probably positive regression ahead in the wins column. Severino projects to make his next start at home against Cincinnati.

Matching up with Chris Sale, the Yankees' right-hander was able to bring his best stuff to the mound and limit the Red Sox to just one run throughout the afternoon. This marks the second straight impressive start for the 23-year-old, and he projects to start Thursday in Seattle.

Severino breezed through the White Sox lineup en route to a career-high 12 strikeouts. At 23 years and 127 days old, Severino became the youngest American League pitcher to record at least 12 strikeouts and zero walks since Jason Bere of the White Sox did it in 1993. It was a masterful bounce-back performance for the young righty, who had allowed nine total runs over his previous two starts against the Angels and A's. He was in line for the win but that was undone by a blown save by Dellin Betances in the ninth inning. Severino will take on the Astros in a tough road matchup Sunday.

Severino (5-3) was tagged with the loss Thursday against the Angels. He allowed five earned runs over 6.0 innings, giving up eight hits and two walks while striking out five batters.

EDGE Analysis

He was staked to a 5-1 lead early in Thursday's matchup and was able to navigate the through the Angels' lineup reasonably well until the sixth and seventh innings. Severino allowed the first two hitters of the seventh to reach safely before the Yankees turned it over to the bullpen and allowed both Cameron Maybin and Cliff Pennington to score. He has now allowed four-or-more earned runs in back-to-back outings after having no such outing in any of his previous seven starts. Severino is lined up to face the White Sox in Chicago for his next outing.

Severino coasted through this one, and at just 89 pitches, he likely could've pitched even deeper but the Yankees didn't want to push their 23-year-old with an already comfortable 14-1 lead at the time. The righty has now gone five straight starts with at least seven strikeouts and allowing two or fewer runs, a stretch in which he's gone 3-0 and lowered his ERA to a team-best 2.75. He'll look to keep rolling next time out when he takes the mound in Oakland on Friday.

He also displayed some of his best command of the season as he threw 73 percent of his pitches for strikes, induced 17 swinging strikes and reached eight strikeouts for the first time since May 7. Severino's latest in a string of strong outings has lowered his ERA to a sterling 2.93 and he will look to keep it rolling Sunday against the Blue Jays.
