Padres manager Andy Green confirmed Sunday that Perdomo will start the team's third game of the season March 31 against the Brewers, Dennis Lin of The Athletic San Diego reports.
EDGE Analysis
The announcement came before Dinelson Lamet, who was named the starter for the second game of the season, exited his outing Sunday with an unspecified injury. If Lamet is forced to miss his first turn through the rotation, it's possible that Perdomo could move up a day in the schedule, but either way, he'll open the season with a matchup against Milwaukee. Perdomo has endured a rough spring, allowing 10 runs on 17 hits and eight walks over 15.2 innings.

Perdomo is vying for one of the Padres' final two rotation spots up for grabs this spring, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Clayton Richard, Bryan Mitchell and Dinelson Lamet appear to be locks for the rotation, and Tyson Ross' strong spring has given the veteran an inside track to start as well. That theoretically leaves one spot for either Perdomo or Chris Young to fill as we inch closer to Opening Day, according to Lin. The 24-year-old has posted mixed results in three exhibition starts, but he turned in his finest effort his last time out against a Royals' lineup of regulars (4.2 innings, two runs and four strikeouts). His extreme groundball tendencies (3.3 GB/FB ratio) combined with an ability to miss bats will always tantalize fantasy owners, but the Padres don't have to keep the former Rule 5 pick in the majors to protect his rights anymore, so the minors remain an option if they opt to go with the safer veteran option in Young. The key for Perdomo will be proving to the club's coaching staff that he can better control his heavy mid-90's sinker, an aspect that has plagued the righty through his first two seasons in bigs, resulting in a poor 1.51 WHIP over 29 starts last year. This job battle will likely come down to the wire, so deep-league owners should sit tight until an official decision on Perdomo's fate is made.

Perdomo gave up five runs on five hits and four walks while striking out two over three innings against the Giants on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Perdomo had a rough start to his day, walking three of the first four batters he faced before surrendering a grand slam off the bat of Hunter Pence. The 24-year-old settled down after an erratic five-run first inning to post zeros in his final two frames. Manager Andy Green gave the hard-throwing righty the "leg up" to claim one of the Padres' three rotation spots behind Clayton Richard and Bryan Mitchell before the start of spring training, but he needs to show better control of his live arm to clinch one a starting job. Perdomo's mid-90s sinker and 61.8 percent groundball rate (second amongst qualified starters) are what make him a tantalizing option to fantasy owners, but he is still an unfinished product that would benefit from taking that "next step" in terms of learning how to command his stuff and pitch effectively. He shouldn't be considered more than a deep-league option until we see more consistency out of his arm.

Padres manager Andy Green said shortly before spring training began that Perdomo had a "leg up" for one of the three openings in the team's rotation, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Green suggested only Clayton Richard and Bryan Mitchell are assured rotation spots heading into the season, but it probably won't take much for Perdomo and Dinelson Lamet to sew up bids during the spring after both provided glimpses of potential in 2017. While he has yet to induce many strikeouts in the majors, Perdomo's high groundball rates look like a sustainable skill that should help him avoid blow-up outings. Unless he begins to generate weaker contact on the balls he puts in play and/or notices a steady uptick in his strikeout rate, however, Perdomo's fantasy ceiling remains limited.

Perdomo allowed four runs on seven hits and one walk across seven innings in a no-decision Sunday against the Giants. He struck out four.
EDGE Analysis
Perdomo was staked to an early lead, but he struggled in allowing three runs on three hits, a walk and a wild pitch in the fourth inning, erasing his opportunity to pick up the win. The 24-year-old struggled a bit over his final two outings of the season, but he was quite solid for much of the second half and showed signs of developing into a respectable major league pitcher. He finishes the year with a 4.67 ERA and a 1.51 WHIP across a career-best 166.2 innings. Perdomo is under team control for the next four years and will look to continue his development in the 2018 campaign.

Perdomo (8-11) allowed four earned runs on six hits while taking the loss Sunday against the Diamondbacks. He lasted five innings, issuing two walks and striking out four in what ended as an 8-4 decision.
EDGE Analysis
Despite having an ERA slightly better than last year (4.65 vs. 5.71), the sophomore is still one victory shy of the nine he posted as a rookie. Perdomo will have one more shot at win No. 9 this season in his final scheduled start Sunday in San Francisco.

Perdomo (8-10) allowed two runs on four hits and six walks while striking out two batters through 5.1 innings to collect the win against Arizona on Monday.
EDGE Analysis
The 24-year-old righty does a lot of things right and has made significant progress as a starter this season. Before Monday's start he had pitched at least six innings in each of his past 10 outings and sports an impressive 62.4 ground-ball percentage for the campaign. Unfortunately, wins are tough to come by pitching for the basement-dwelling Padres and his underwhelming 6.5 K/9 also hurts his overall fantasy potential. Perdomo projects to face the Rockies at Petco Park in his next start.

Perdomo (7-10) gave up three runs on five hits -- including three home runs -- over six innings in a losing effort against the Diamondbacks on Sunday. He struck out four and walked two.
EDGE Analysis
The three homers allowed matched his career high. With a top groundball rate among starting pitchers, Perdomo has generally done a good job keeping the ball in the yard in recent months -- he had allowed just five home runs in his last 13 starts entering play Saturday -- but his middling strikeout and walk rates severely limit his appeal. Perdomo won't miss Coors Field next week, so even those in NL-only leagues should probably turn elsewhere.

Perdomo (7-9) allowed two runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out six batters during Monday's loss to St. Louis.
EDGE Analysis
Perdomo has settled into a nice groove with just eight earned runs allowed through 24 innings over his last four starts. The 23-year-old righty has made some encouraging strides this season, but until he improves on his 6.7 K/9, his fantasy value will likely remain capped. Pitching for the Padres hurts his upside in the wins column, too. Perdomo projects to face the Diamondbacks at Chase Field in his next start.

Perdomo (7-8) held the Giants to two runs (one earned) on seven hits and two walks while striking out three and picking up the win Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
This was the 24-year-old's third consecutive quality start and fifth in nine outings since the All-Star break. In fact, Perdomo has completed at least six frames in all but one of his starts in the second half. While going deeper into games is a positive step for the hard-throwing righty, he still has to improve on his 4.69 ERA and 1.9 K/BB ratio before becoming a reliable fantasy starter.
