Lobstein was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis on Wednesday, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.

He hit Addison Russell with an 87-mph fastball -- home plate Laz Diaz warned both benches following the pitch. It was thought the Bucs would send Lobstein to the minors when the bullpen's health improved, but the lefty has pitched better than most of Pittsburgh's relievers. His ability to contribute multiple innings -- he's given up just one run in his last 11 innings covering four games -- may keep him on the staff indefinitely.

Lobstein gave up three earned runs, six hits, and two walks through his three innings of relief against the Tigers on Tuesday.

Lobstein was brought into the game for a long relief appearance after Juan Nicasio could only get through three innings of Tuesday's start. Neither one of the two pitchers had an answer for the Detroit's offense as they were tagged for seven of the eight runs given up in the game. Lobstein's ERA dropped to 6.83 after the outing.

Lobstein threw two scoreless innings Tuesday, striking out the side in the eleventh inning against the Cardinals. The relief win was the first of his career.

He's hanging on by a thread as the last bullpen arm, but Tuesday's showing can only boost his stock. Lobstein is expected to be sent to Triple-A when reliever Jared Hughes returns from the DL, but he's doing his best to make an impact.

Lobstein is expected to make the Pirates' Opening Day roster, though his spot isn't necessarily safe. "In Kyle's case, he's lined up to make the club, but we reserve the right to make a different move late," GM Neal Huntington told Adam Berry of the team's official website.
