Kevin Gausman fanned eight while allowing one run in four innings Sunday against the Pirates. The Orioles are keeping Gausman stretched out, even though there isn't any room in the rotation for him. He could be a force in the pen if they want to go that route, but having him start games in Triple-A is also an option.

Kevin Gausman told reporters on Thursday morning that he has gained 12 pounds of muscle. "I've put on 12 pounds already," said the 23-year-old right-hander. "I feel great physically. I'm probably somewhere [near] the best physically I've felt." Gausman was rushed to the majors in 2013 and struggled, but he's a great talent and could be ready to take a step forward as a sophomore. Gausman was the fourth overall pick in the 2012 MLB Amateur Draft.

McFarland over Gausman for the start since the Yankees are so weak from the right side, but the southpaw didn't make it out of the third inning. Fortunately, Gausman was very effective in relief, giving up just three hits and no walks while striking out four. The promising right-hander figures to get another shot in the rotation before long.
