Gausman (3-4) navigated his way around 13 baserunners -- eight hits and five walks -- over 5.1 innings Wednesday, ultimately holding the Yankees to three runs (two earned) and striking out four.
EDGE Analysis
Let's not sugarcoat this outing: It was bad. Gausman was highly inefficient, needing 106 pitches to record 16 outs, and he set a season high in walks. Still, he picked up his first win since May 8 because he worked out of nearly all his jams with relatively modest damage. Especially with his strikeouts way down this year, Gausman's become hard to trust in fantasy. Even using him as a matchup-dependent streamer is a risky, relatively low-reward proposition.

Gausman (2-4) allowed two runs on eight hits while striking out two over 6.2 innings in Friday's 2-0 loss to the Astros.
EDGE Analysis
Both runs scored on solo home runs as the long ball continues to be an issue for Gausman, but otherwise he seems to be turning the corner after his brutal start to the season. The right-hander has now produced quality starts in three of his last four trips to the mound with a 4.30 ERA and 18:4 K:BB in 23 innings over that stretch, numbers which are a vast improvement on his April performance. Gausman's next outing is scheduled for Wednesday at home against the Yankees.

Gausman allowed two runs on 10 hits and a walk while striking out five batters over six innings during Saturday's win over Toronto. He didn't factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
This was an encouraging start from the 26-year-old righty, but stringing together solid outings has been a challenge for Gausman this season. While it's probably best to remain patient, Gausman has a lot of work ahead if he's going to turn his 6.65 ERA, 1.86 WHIP and 6.8 K/9 into serviceable fantasy numbers. It also isn't out of the question to be selective with his opponents going forward. His upcoming road date against the league-best Astros likely qualifies as a matchup to avoid.

Gausman (2-3) was roughed up over 3.1 innings Sunday, allowing five runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out three Royals in a no-decision.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander's ERA ballooned to 7.19 following Sunday's lackluster effort. Gausman's downright awful play thus far has been one of the most unpleasant surprises to sweep through the fantasy circuit early in 2017. The potential for success remains, and many would still assume his talents will show up sooner than later, but Gausman's owners are stuck between a rock and hard place. At this point, it may be wise to leave the 26-year-old on the bench until things turn around. Unfortunately, playing in the AL East doesn't make turning a 180 an easy feat. Gausman's next start comes Saturday against the surging Blue Jays.

Gausman (2-3) allowed two runs on five hits and one walk across seven innings in Monday's win over the Nationals. He struck out eight.
EDGE Analysis
Gausman delivered his best start of the season in this one, throwing 66 percent of his season-high 117 pitches for strikes while easily topping four punchouts for the first time. He began to fade a bit toward the end of his outing, allowing runs in the fifth and sixth innings, but was able to escape with his second quality start of the season. Gausman still carries an unsightly 6.63 ERA after getting pummeled at times early on, but perhaps this strong outing will help get him on track ahead of a favorable matchup against the Royals on Saturday.

Gausman was ejected during the second inning of Wednesday's game against Boston after hitting Xander Bogaerts with a pitch.
EDGE Analysis
Tensions have been running high between the two division rivals for a couple of weeks. Red Sox ace Chris Sale threw a 97 mph fastball behind Manny Machado in Tuesday night's game, and apparently Wednesday's home plate umpire, Sam Holbrook, thought Gausman was retaliating. However, Holbrook may have jumped the gun with his decision to toss the O's starter considering Gausman struck Bogaerts with a 77 mph breaking ball that hung inside. Manager Buck Showalter and catcher Caleb Joseph were livid with the umpire following the ejection, and Gausman walked off in in disbelief. As of now, the right-hander isn't slated to take the hill again until Monday against Washington.

Gausman (1-2) was tagged for five runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out three over six innings but escaped with a no-decision in Friday's 14-11 extra-inning loss to the Yankees.
EDGE Analysis
The 26-year-old has now given up at least five runs in each of his last three starts, and his 7.50 ERA is fully supported by his 6.0 K/9, 5.1 BB/9 and 1.8 HR/9 through 30 innings. Despite Gausman's upside, his current form makes it impossible to trust him in a fantasy lineup in even the deepest of leagues. Things won't get any easier for him in his next start Wednesday on the road against the Red Sox.

Gausman will start Friday in New York, MASN's Roch Kubatko reports.
EDGE Analysis
He had been expected to start Saturday if the Orioles kept a five-man rotation, but instead they will opt to take advantage of off days and go with a four-man rotation with the hope that Chris Tillman can return May 2. Gausman will face CC Sabathia in the contest.

Gausman (1-2) was crushed over 5.1 innings, allowing five runs on eight hits (including three home runs) and three walks while striking out four in Sunday's loss to Boston.
EDGE Analysis
The righty has had a rocky April and Sunday was no different. Coming off one of the worst outings of his career -- an eight-out appearance Tuesday in which he allowed eight earned runs to the Reds -- Gausman surrendered four runs in the first inning before capturing his first out. The 26-year-old did settle down after that, pitching three scoreless frames before Mitch Moreland went deep in the fifth. Gausman has just one quality start in his first five games, and owns a disgusting 6.4 K/9 and 5.63 BB/9 through 24 innings. He'll have to take on April once more when he starts versus the Yankees on Saturday.

Gausman (1-1) lasted just 2.2 innings in Cincinnati on Tuesday, giving up eight runs on eight hits and three walks.
EDGE Analysis
Something doesn't smell right about what we're seeing out of Gausman so far. It's not just his unsightly 7.23 ERA and 2.04 WHIP; it's his awful 13:12 K:BB in 18.2 innings. That's a huge departure from last year's 174:47 mark over 179.2 frames. Gausman doesn't seem to be nursing an injury, as his velocity is normal, and he blamed "bad command" and "bad execution" after the game, per Rich Dubroff of PressBoxOnline.com. He's not a drop candidate yet because the upside is so tantalizing, but Gausman should be approached with trepidation heading into Sunday's start against Boston.
