Gausman took part in a simulated game Sunday and is now set for the final stage of his rehab work. The 28-year-old could make a couple rehab starts in the minors and rejoin the Braves shortly after the All-Star break. A return to the starting rotation certainly isn't guaranteed given Gausman's 6.21 ERA and 1.51 WHIP through 13 starts.

Gausman was pulled after allowing four runs (two earned) over 2.1 innings Monday night, so it seems likely that his foot issue played a role in his disastrous outing. A.J Minter was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett in a corresponding move.

Gausman (2-5) was charged with seven runs on 12 hits over five innings during Wednesday's 7-4 loss at Pittsburgh. He struck out three and walked none.

The 28-year-old has allowed a whopping 15 runs in his last two starts but will have the chance for a rebound effort against the Pirates on Monday.

Gausman (2-4) took the loss in Wednesday's 14-4 drubbing at the hands of the Nationals, surrendering eight runs on eight hits and two walks in only one-plus inning. He struck out one.

EDGE Analysis

Remarkably, Gausman didn't serve up a homer amidst the carnage -- the Nats simply kept the line moving with a parade of line-drive singles, scoring four runs in the first inning without an extra-base hit. The right-hander came into the evening with a 4.33 ERA and staggered out of it with a 5.56 mark, but he'll look to rebound next Wednesday in Pittsburgh.

Gausman allowed two runs on six hits with four strikeouts and two walks across six innings during a no-decision against the Brewers on Saturday.

EDGE Analysis

The right-hander yielded two runs in the first inning but then really only ran into trouble in one of his final five frames. That trouble came in the third, but Gausman worked out of a bases loaded, one-out situation. He didn't get the win but improved most of his other numbers -- 4.31 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 50 strikeouts in 48 innings this season. Gausman will make his next start against the Giants on Thursday.

Gausman dropped his appeal of a five-game suspension and will begin serving the ban Sunday.

Major League Baseball first levied the suspension on Gausman on May 6 after he was ejected from his start against the Marlins three days earlier for intentionally throwing at Miami pitcher Jose Urena. Gausman chose to fight the suspension immediately and proceeded made a six-inning start against the Diamondbacks, then dropped the appeal ahead of Monday's team off day. The break in the schedule will allow the Braves to get by with a four-man rotation until Gausman is eligible to return to action for a start Saturday against the Brewers.
