Smith was behind the plate for the fourth consecutive game Friday and went 1-for-4 with a double in a 15-5 loss to the Tigers.
EDGE Analysis
Manager Rick Renteria told Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune that he chose Smith over the left-handed-hitting Omar Narvaez due to opposing pitcher matchups. Smith entered Friday's game after having gone 3-for-9 with a double and an RBI in the three-game set against the Red Sox.

Smith was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday, Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
With Geovany Soto (elbow) heading back to the DL, Smith receives his second stint with the White Sox this season. The 28-year-old went just 1-for-11 over three games in his first stretch, but is slashing a solid .377/.435/.491 in the minors this season, a trend he will aim to translate against big league arms. Nonetheless, Omar Narvaez will still see a majority of starts behind the plate until Soto is able to return, so Smith will be challenged to find many opportunities.

Smith went 1-for-4 with an RBI double in Monday's 7-4 loss to the Yankees.
EDGE Analysis
Smith was in the starting lineup Monday to catch for Derek Holland, whose usually caught by Geovany Soto but he's on the disabled list with an elbow injury. This was Smith's second start since being called up last week to replace Soto. The other was last Friday for Dylan Covey, with whom he had more familiarity than No. 1 catcher Omar Narvaez.

The White Sox purchased the contract of Smith from Triple-A Charlotte on Thursday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
Geovany Soto (elbow) was placed on the disabled list but, if further tests reveal minimal damage, could return before the end of April. Smith is 7-for-16 with nine RBI over his first four games for Charlotte but will probably back up Omar Narvaez for as long as he's with the White Sox, limiting his opportunities for contributions at the plate. Of course, an extended absence by Soto may give Smith more chances to play.

Smith has been outrighted to Triple-A Charlotte but will still participate in the White Sox's major league spring training.
EDGE Analysis
The White Sox had a surplus of catching options on the major league roster with Geovany Soto nearing a return in addition to Omar Narvaez. With that, Smith will likely start the year in Triple-A, barring an injury to one of Chicago's other major league-ready catchers. Smith slashed .219/.291/.399 in 183 at-bats at Triple-A last season.

Smith went 1-for-3 with his first career hit in the White Sox's loss to the Royals on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
Smith received his second start of the month as manager Robin Ventura begins to empty out his bench. Smith missed a healthy chunk of 2016 due to back issues, and he struggled at the plate (career-low .690 OPS) when he did play. Pending the team's other offeseason moves, he could be in play for the big league team's backup catcher role.

Smith was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte prior to Thursday night's game.
EDGE Analysis
The journeyman catcher will get the chance to make his big league debut this September, thanks to roster expansion. He hit just .223/.296/.408 with eight homers in 48 games with Charlotte this season, and figures to play sparingly down the stretch.

Smith returned from the minor league disabled list on July 14, and he has gone 4-for-18 (.222) with a home run in his five games back.
EDGE Analysis
So far, 2016 has been a lost season for Smith, who has been limited to just 14 games due to various injuries. It is a shame too, since Alex Avila's frequent presence on the disabled list could have resulted in some major league action.

Smith was placed on the disabled list with an undisclosed injury at Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday, CSN Chicago reports.
EDGE Analysis
Jones had just returned from a month-long stay on the DL due to a back injury, but his return lasted just one day. The nature of his injury (and hence a timetable) has yet to be reported. Omar Navarez and Chris O'Dowd should split the catching duties at Charlotte with Smith out.

Smith (back) was activated from the 15-day DL and optioned to Triple-A Charlotte on Sunday, MLB.com's Scott Merkin reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smith has yet to make a start at the Major League level, as he was scratched due to back spasms the last time manager Robin Ventura intended to use him in the lineup. Smith will now return to the minors, where the backstop owns a .980 OPS through eight games this year.
