Astros placed RHP Josh Fields on the 15-day disabled list with right forearm soreness. Fields went on the DL with a forearm issue last year, as well. The reliever has been up-and-down with the Astros this season, striking out 37 across 27 1/3 frames but also posting a 5.93 ERA. It's not clear how long he'll be sidelined.

Astros recalled RHP Josh Fields from Triple-A Oklahoma City. Fields was sent down a week ago after a string of poor performances for the big club. The Astros are hoping he's righted the ship after three scoreless innings at Oklahoma City. While Fields was in the mix for saves earlier this season, he's unlikely to be trusted in the ninth inning again anytime soon.

Fields saved his second game of the season on April 22 but has been rocked for nine runs over his three appearances since then. He could eventually get another look in the ninth inning, but Porter will go with Chad Qualls and Anthony Bass for now.

Josh Fields blew his first save of the season Wednesday in the Astros' loss to the Mariners. Fields entered the game with the Astros leading 3-2. He gave up back-to-back singles to Robinson Cano and Corey Hart and then let up a one-out walkoff three-run shot to Kyle Seager. Fields is in a closer committee right now in Houston and appears unlikely to grab the job for himself anytime soon.

Josh Fields earned his first save since April 2 and his second total in Tuesday's 5-2 win against Seattle, striking out one over a perfect ninth inning. Outside of a shaky outing with a five-run lead earlier this month against the Blue Jays (3 runs, 2 earned), Fields hasn't coughed up a run, a stretch that has reached five straight appearances. Unless you play in an AL-only league, it's just too hard to own a Houston reliever in fantasy. Fields would hold some intrigue if the ninth-inning job was his, but he's going to keep sharing it with Anthony Bass, Chad Qualls, Matt Albers, and the guy from Section 157 that Bo Porter ran into outside the stadium before the game.

After coming in with a 6-1 lead, Josh Fields allowed three runs -- two earned -- in the ninth Thursday against the Blue Jays. Fields was pulled after retiring two of the five batters he faced, allowing Anthony Bass to come in and get a one-out save. While it wasn't a save situation for Fields tonight, this won't help his chances of getting the next save chance generated. As is, both he and Chad Qualls, who pitched a scoreless eighth tonight, have identical 4.91 ERAs and 1.91 WHIPs. It bodes well for Matt Albers perhaps getting some save opps once he returns from paternity leave.

Josh Fields struck out one over a perfect inning to earn the save in Wednesday's win over the Yankees. Fields needed just 10 pitches to dispose of the Yankees in order, getting a popout and a foulout sandwiched around a strikeout of Brian Roberts. Matt Albers pitched before Fields and also looked terrific, giving up a hit but striking out the other four batters he faced. Chad Qualls was nowhere to be found after allowing a run on three hits Tuesday. The Astros bullpen has the makings of a true committee, at least until Jesse Crain (biceps) is ready, but Fields could be at the top of the pecking order right now.

Josh Fields fanned all three batters he faced in the ninth Thursday against the Phillies. Oddly, one of those hitters was a pitcher -- the Phillies let Sean O'Sullivan hit for himself in the ninth -- but at least two of the guys did, in fact, hit for a living. Fields has probably been the best of Houston's closer candidates this spring, with one run allowed and a 5/0 K/BB ratio in six innings. It's still unlikely, but maybe he'll get the gig over Chad Qualls on Opening Day.

Josh Fields expressed his desire on Friday to compete for the Astros ninth-inning gig, but understands why a pair of veteran hurlers were brought in as well. Jesse Crain and Chad Qualls were acquired via free agency this offseason, with Crain the leading candidate for saves in the Astros bullpen provided he's healthy to begin the season. Fields, who finished the season in that capacity, posted a 4.97 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 40/18 K/BB ratio over 38 innings of work in his rookie campaign.
