Orioles optioned 2B Jonathan Schoop, LHP Zach Britton, and 3B Yamaico Navarro to Triple-A Norfolk.
The Orioles are expected to use Schoop at shortstop this year, but his best chance at reaching the majors will be at second base if/when Brian Roberts gets injured. Britton was competing for a spot in the Opening Day rotation.

Jonathan Schoop went 3-for-4 with a homer and three RBI in the Orioles' 6-3 win over the Rays on Friday.
We don't get the Orioles' plan to use Schoop at shortstop this year, not when Manny Machado should still be the team's future at the position. Schoop would project better at third or second even ignoring Machado's presence ahead of him. If he's needed this year, it's more likely to be at second base than anywhere else.

MASN Sports' Roch Kubatko reports that the Orioles are currently leaning toward using prospect Jonathan Schoop as their everyday shortstop with Triple-A Norfolk.
It's an interesting choice, as many see Schoop as a third baseman in the long run, with Manny Machado eventually moving over to shortstop. Perhaps the Orioles' feeling on the situation has evolved.

Orioles purchased the contract of INF Jonathan Schoop from Double-A Bowie.
An expected move, as Schoop is widely-considered the Orioles' top position prospect. The 21-year-old batted .245/.324/.386 with 14 home runs, 56 RBI, five stolen bases and a .710 OPS in 124 games this season at the Double-A level. The Orioles have Brian Roberts and Alexi Casilla in place to play second base next season, but it wouldn't be surprising if Schoop contributes at some point.

MASN's Roch Kubatko speculates that prospect Jonathan Schoop could factor into the Orioles' plans at second base next season.
Schoop is expected to open 2013 at Triple-A Norfolk, but has extensive playing time at second base, and could be in line for an early promotion depending on what the Orioles do this offseason. An international free agent in 2009, Schoop batted .245/.324/.386 with 24 doubles, 14 homers, and 56 RBI in 485 at-bats at the Double-A level. Baseball America rated him as the No. 82 overall prospect in their pre-2012 rankings.
