He extended his streak of starts in which he's given up three runs or fewer to 12, and Gray's 2.49 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 75:16 K:BB in 72.1 innings over that stretch are the kind of ace-like numbers the Rockies were hoping for when they drafted the right-hander in the first round back in 2013. He'll make one more trip to the mound in the regular season Wednesday at home against the Marlins.

Gray pitched well enough to deserve his ninth win of the year, but the Rockies' bullpen imploded behind him. As such, his record remains at 8-4 and he remains two wins shy of his career-high 10 set last year. Most importantly, his 3.75 ERA is significantly better than his career mark of 3.75, making him a serviceable fantasy asset in all but the shallowest of leagues.

Backed by a pair of Carlos Gonzalez two-run homers, Gray pitched like the ace of Colorado's staff in this NL West rivalry game with Wild Card implications. The 25-year-old righty tied his season high in both strikeouts and innings pitched while issuing zero free passes for only the second time in 17 starts. Look for him to build on this effort at home Sunday against the league-worst Padres offense.

Gray (7-4) earned the win over the Dodgers on Thursday, allowing one run on four hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out three.

EDGE Analysis

The Rockies' offense got to Clayton Kershaw early, staking Gray to a three-run lead before he even took the mound. Gray gave up a pair of doubles in the fourth inning but scattered just two singles (one of the infield variety) in his other five frames. He has been pitching well since his eight-run implosion back on July 19 and he lines up for two starts next week, but one of those comes against the red-hot Diamondbacks in Arizona. Proceed with caution.

All three runs against Gray were plated on one swing from J.D. Martinez in the first inning. He settled down from there, allowing just two hits over his final four frames, but the damage was already done. Gray has been pitching well lately -- he had a 2.58 ERA and 1.12 WHIP in his last six starts entering play Saturday -- but the right-hander is still best utilized as a road streamer in mixed leagues.

Gray turned in another solid outing and picked up his sixth win of the year Sunday. Gray has now made three consecutive quality starts, over which he's collectively allowed four earned runs and fanned 19 batters across 18.2 innings. He should return to the hill Saturday when the Rockies take on the Diamondbacks.

Gray (5-3) fell to the Royals on Tuesday, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits and a walk over 6.2 innings while striking out six.

EDGE Analysis

The right-hander delivered his fourth quality start in his last five trips to the mound, but other than Nolan Arenado the Rockies hitters couldn't solve Danny Duffy, saddling Gray with his first loss in August. He's now got a 3.53 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 41:9 K:BB in his last seven outings (43.1 innings), making him a solid fantasy option heading into Sunday's road start in Atlanta.

Gray didn't have to do much to get in the win column, as the Rockies put up 14 runs through the first five innings, but he still managed to toss his third quality start over his last four tries. He's been rock solid since giving up eight runs to the Mets right after the All-Star break, registering a 3.72 ERA and 35:8 K:BB across six starts (36.1 innings). He'll look to keep things rolling when he toes the rubber next against the Royals on Tuesday.

The right-hander seemed to have the game well in hand early, taking a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the fifth inning, but he couldn't hang on for the quality start once Miami's bats got rolling. Gray continues to do a good job controlling the strike zone, posting a 29:6 K:BB in 30.2 innings over his last five outings to go along with a 3.81 ERA. He'll next take the mound Wednesday at home against the Braves.

Gray retired the first seven batters he faced and cruised without much difficulty from there, surrendering his only run when Nick Williams grounded into an RBI double play in the fourth inning. The right-hander has been pleasantly efficient over his last three outings, posting a 2.84 ERA and an 18:2 K:BB in that stretch, so he looks to be back in full form after missing nearly two months with a foot injury. Despite his unimpressive 4.94 ERA this season, there's little doubt Gray is the ace of the Colorado rotation and will have a full week before his next scheduled start, Saturday against the Marlins.
