Gray signed a one-year deal with the Rockies on Friday, avoiding arbitration, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Gray attributed his down year to his lack of health, claiming he continuously battled injury throughout the 2018 season. He posted a disappointing 5.12 ERA, although he did rack up a career-high 183 punchouts and 12 wins over 172.1 innings. Now that he's 100 percent, Gray will aim to piece together an improved 2019 campaign.

Gray said his struggles this season were due to health issues, Kyle Newman of The Denver Post reports. "I wasn't really healthy," the right-hander said. "My (velocity) was down this year. I was down about 20 pounds."
EDGE Analysis
2018 was a rollercoaster of a year for Gray. The right-hander began the season as the Rockies' Opening Day starter but was sent to the minors before the All-Star break due to his struggles (5.44 ERA across 18 first-half starts). Gray flashed his potential upon his return to the majors -- posting a 2.59 ERA across his first seven starts back with the big club -- though he struggled down the stretch and was ultimately left off the team's playoff roster. While the 26-year-old believes his struggles were health-related, he was unsure when asked if he was battling an illness. "Maybe, I'm not sure," Gray stated. "My body kind of did a 180 (degree turn) this year and I'm not sure why. I want to get it back under control and get back to being strong." Gray plans on bulking up this offseason in an effort to turn things around next year, though only time will tell if his added muscle helps.

Gray is not on the Rockies' NLDS roster against Milwaukee.
EDGE Analysis
Gray struggled during three of his final four starts in the regular season, logging a 9.60 ERA and 1.93 WHIP in those outings. Manager Bud Black elected to keep 12 pitchers on the active roster, including Chad Bettis over Gray.

Gray is scheduled to start Saturday's game against the Nationals, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
After posting a 7.88 ERA and 2.00 WHIP over his first four starts in September, Gray bounced back in impressive fashion while starting Monday against the Phillies on short notice. Though he was initially scheduled to take the hill Tuesday, Gray was pressed into action a day earlier than anticipated after Tyler Anderson was scratched with a sore shoulder. Gray proceeded to toss seven innings of one-run ball en route to the win, keeping the Rockies' playoff hopes alive in the process. With the team having yet to punch its postseason ticket, Gray will take the hill Saturday for what could be the most important start to date of his young career.

Gray will start Monday against the Phillies rather than Tuesday after Tyler Anderson was scratched due to left shoulder soreness, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The change in schedule won't mean Gray starts on short rest, as his last start came the previous Monday. It does mean that he could be more likely to have a two-start week, as he'll presumably pitch again Saturday or Sunday against the Nationals. He'll have to pitch well Monday to keep his spot in the rotation, however, as he's allowed a combined 10 runs in six innings over his last two outings.

Gray will start against the Phillies on Tuesday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander's rotation spot has been in jeopardy ever since his recent shaky three-start stretch, but Gray, who owns a 5.07 ERA this season, said he looked at old photos of his college delivery and noticed the difference in his balance. Gray also threw a 15-to-20-pitch session Saturday in which he tried to merely throw, instead of thinking about mechanics. His recent form makes him a risky fantasy play for the Coors Field appearance, but his 4.78 home ERA still tops his 5.34 elsewhere. Plus, streamers looking for any sign of life as they chase a winning finish to their fantasy season should be inclined to take the chance, considering he still boasts a 9.6 K/9 and 2.7 BB/9 -- along with more positive reflections in his 4.01 FIP and 3.46 xFIP.

Gray (11-8) gave up six runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out one over two innings in a loss to the Dodgers on Monday.
EDGE Analysis
This was downright ugly. Joc Pederson led off the home half of the first inning with a home run, and Gray went on to allow five consecutive hits (including another homer) to begin the third before getting the hook. After some initial success upon his return from the minors, Gray has regressed in a major way, posting a 7.54 ERA and 1.72 WHIP while allowing nine long balls in his last five starts (22.2 innings). He gets the Diamondbacks in Arizona and the Nationals at home to close out the regular season.

Gray allowed two runs on four hits in four innings Friday against the Dodgers, walking five and striking out four in a no-decision.
EDGE Analysis
Gray issued a season-high five walks and had his shortest outing in 10 starts (he went four innings in San Francisco on June 28). The 26-year-old has 12 quality starts and a 4.69 ERA on the year while ranking 10th in the NL with 168 strikeouts. Gray hasn't lost a game in his last 13 starts, going 5-0 with a 3.76 ERA in that span. His next start will be a matchup against the Diamondbacks at home.

Gray allowed five runs on seven hits with no walks across 6.2 innings in Monday's no-decision against the Angels. He recorded one strikeout.
EDGE Analysis
Most of the damage against Gray came via the long ball, including a three-run home run from Shohei Ohtani in the fourth inning and a solo shot from Mike Trout in the sixth. He threw 65 percent of his strikes and went without a walk in a start for the first time in over two months, but he somehow managed to tie his season low in punchouts. This bumpy outing came as a bit of a surprise for Gray, who'd delivered quality starts in six of his previous seven starts. He'll look to rebound in a favorable matchup this weekend against the Padres.

Gray (10-7) got the win Wednesday, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk while striking out five over 6.1 innings against the Padres.
EDGE Analysis
Gray allowed a run in the first inning and then a solo homer in his final inning of work, but in between it was another brilliant start for the 26-year-old. His brief stint getting sent down to the minors seems to have worked, as he's thrown six quality starts in seven tries since coming back up, working to a 2.59 ERA in that span. He'll take a 4.67 ERA on the year and career-best 10.4 K/9 into Monday's interleague clash with the Angels.
