Gray (0-1) took the loss during Tuesday's 6-2 defeat at the hands of the Mariners, allowing four runs on three hits and a walk with four strikeouts in five innings.
EDGE Analysis
Making his first start since Opening Day, Gray put himself in an early hole by surrendering a Eugenio Suarez three-run home in the first following a HBP and walk. While it was mostly smooth sailing from there, the early deficit proved too steep for Texas to overcome. The 30-year-old has a high 7.00 ERA through two starts and has failed to surpass five innings or four strikeouts in either appearance. He's currently scheduled to face off against Oakland on Sunday.

Gray (finger) was activated off the 10-day injured list and will start Tuesday's game against the Mariners.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander picked up a blister on his middle finger during the season opener April 8, and he'll end up spending only the 10-day minimum on the injured list. Gray threw 70 pitches over four innings in that start and could face some minor workload limitations Tuesday while coming off the brief absence.

Gray (finger) is listed as the Rangers' probable starter for Tuesday's game against the Mariners.
EDGE Analysis
Texas plans to officially activate Gray from the 10-day injured list later Tuesday as he makes his return from a minimum-length stay on the shelf. After taking the hill for the Rangers' season opener against the Blue Jays on April 8, Gray developed a blister on his right middle finger that prompted the team to shut him down as a matter of precaution. Gray has seemingly been able to throw without any discomfort since being deactivated, so he's not expected to face any major workload restrictions in his return to action Tuesday. The outing against Seattle is expected to mark the first of two starts this week for Gray, who is likely to take the hill again Sunday in Oakland.

Gray (finger) said Tuesday that he believes he's on track to return from the 10-day injured list when first eligible April 19, independent baseball journalist Jeff Wilson reports.
EDGE Analysis
Though Gray has yet to throw a bullpen session since being placed on the IL, he's pleased with how his hand has healed after he developed a blister on one of his fingers coming out of his Rangers debut April 8 in Toronto. Due to off days Wednesday and next Monday, the Rangers will be able to get by with a four-man rotation if Gray is on fact on track to return for the start of next week's series in Seattle.

Gray was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a blister on his throwing hand, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Rangers will be able to go with four starters due to a couple off days on the schedule. Gray could return April 19 in Seattle if he misses the minimum time. Spencer Patton was recalled in a corresponding move.

Gray developed a potential blister on his middle finger that affected him in the fourth inning of Friday's 10-8 loss to the Blue Jays, indepedent baseball journalist Jeff Wilson reports.
EDGE Analysis
Gray cruised through three innings before giving up three runs in his fourth and final frame. He said the blister first developed during his final spring training start. The right-hander received a lot of support from the offense, which had built a 7-0 lead before Toronto battled back. That offense figures to be a mainstay for the Rangers, which has the potential to benefit the starters as long as the bullpen doesn't cave as it did Friday. Gray is next scheduled to pitch Thursday at home against the Angels.

Gray didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 10-8 loss to the Blue Jays, giving up three runs on three hits and two walks over four innings. He struck out four.
EDGE Analysis
It looked like Gray might cruise to a win in his Rangers debut after Texas grabbed a 7-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning, but the Toronto offense started rolling in the bottom of the frame and the right-hander got the hook after 70 pitches (43 strikes). The final score likely seemed awfully familiar to Gray from his days with the Rockies, but things should be a little less chaotic when he makes his home debut Thursday against the Angels.

Manager Chris Woodward said Tuesday that Gray will start the Rangers' Opening Day game April 8 in Toronto, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Given that he signed a four-year, $56 million contract over the winter along with the fact that the Rangers are lacking in established starting depth behind him, Gray was the obvious choice to get the ball on Opening Day. The 30-year-old power right-hander has flashed intriguing upside at various points since reaching the big leagues in 2015, but calling Coors Field his home park for his first seven MLB seasons has played a major role in him submitting an underwhelming 4.59 ERA through 829.1 career innings. The move from Colorado to Texas' Globe Life Field -- which has proven to be a forgiving environment for pitchers in the two years since its inception -- could put Gray in good position to deliver the best season of his career. At the very least, Gray should be a solid source of innings volume; not including the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign, he's covered at least 149 frames in each of the last three seasons.

Gray allowed one run on four hits and struck out four over two innings in Thursday's spring training start against the Athletics.
EDGE Analysis
Gray made his Texas debut and looked sharp. All four strikeouts were the result of a revamped slider, Jesse Borek of MLB.com reports. "It's moving a lot more," Gray said of the slider he worked on with pitching coach Brendan Sagara. "It's got a lot more horizontal action on it. It probably moves double the amount my old one does... This one kind of goes across the whole plate." The right-hander already had a pretty good slider, as batters were limited to a .156 batting average and .300 slugging percentage against the pitch he threw a career-high 38.1 percent of the time in 2021. Gray is a leading candidate to become the the ace of a Rangers' staff that's looking for a bona fide No. 1 starter.

Gray signed a four-year, $56 million contract with the Rangers on Sunday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Gray didn't receive a qualifying offer from the Rockies earlier in the offseason, so the Rangers won't be forced to give up a draft pick after signing the right-hander. The 30-year-old made 29 starts for Colorado during the 2021 campaign and logged a 4.59 ERA and 1.33 WHIP in 149 innings. Gray will no longer have to pitch his home games in the altitude at Coors Field after spending his first seven major-league seasons in Colorado, and he'll have a prominent role in the Rangers' rotation in 2022.
