The bullpen session will be the right-hander's first time on the mound since suffering an oblique strain during his last start Aug. 1. Gray is expected to rejoin the Rangers before the end of the campaign, though he's likely to have a modified workload given the limited build-up time.

Gray was placed on the 15-day injured list with a strained left oblique Tuesday and is expected to be sidelined 4-to-6 weeks, Joseph Hoyt of The Dallas Morning News reports.

The right-hander suffered the injury during Monday's start against the Orioles and is now poised to miss the rest of August. Depending on his recovery, Gray may not get back stretched back out to a full workload if he's even able to return before the end of the regular season.

Gray is expected to undergo a scan, and the Rangers should have an update after a review of the results. If the 30-year-old misses one or multiple starts, the Rangers don't have many good options to fill in. Taylor Hearn, who has bounced between the rotation and the bullpen, as well as the majors and the minors, could be used as a stopgap.

Gray (7-4) allowed four hits and two walks while striking out five across six scoreless innings to earn the win Thursday against the Marlins.

Gray dominated the Marlins, and he allowed only three runners to reach scoring position in the start while also generating 13 swinging strikes on 94 total pitches. Gray has been excellent across his last eight starts, maintaining a 1.81 ERA while punching out 58 across 49.2 innings. That strong stretch has lowered his ERA on the campaign to 3.48 across 95.2 frames.

Gray (6-4) earned the win over Oakland on Wednesday, allowing one hit and no walks while striking out nine batters over seven scoreless innings.

Gray was dominant in what was arguably his best outing of the season, striking out five of the first six batters he faced and allowing only one baserunner -- via an infield single -- across seven frames. The right-hander racked up 16 swinging strikes and finished with his sixth quality start of the campaign. Gray has been a solid addition to Texas' staff this season, ranking second on the team with six wins while posting a 3.71 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 10.0 K/9 over 89.2 innings.

Gray (5-4) allowed five runs (three earned) on nine hits and a walk over 5.1 innings Friday, striking out eight and earning a win over the Twins.

Gray got off to a rocky start Friday, coughing up a two-run blast to Carlos Correa in the first inning. He allowed one run over the next four frames before giving up another two-run homer, this time to Ryan Jeffers, in the sixth. The veteran right-hander has won four of his last five starts, posting a 2.64 ERA with a 34:5 K:BB during that stretch. Gray will carry a 4.03 ERA into his projected home matchup with Oakland next week.

Gray (4-4) gave up three earned runs on six hits and a walk while striking out seven over 5.2 innings to take the loss in a 4-1 defeat to the Mets on Sunday.

Gray gave up two home runs off the bats of Starling Marte and Eduardo Escobar and was saddled with his fourth loss of the season. It was a fairly pedestrian start for Gray who had gathered a bit of momentum with a .195 OBA in June after a rocky start to his first season with Texas. The 30-year-old right-hander has a quality 9.5 K/9 rate in 77.1 innings in 2022. He is expected to make his next start Saturday in Minnesota when he will look for win number five.

Gray (4-3) gave up one earned run on five hits and two walks while striking out eight over seven innings to pick up his fourth win of the year in an 8-3 victory over the Royals on Tuesday.

Gray was very sharp in this outing, giving up only one earned run on a single off the bat of Bobby Witt Jr. The 30-year-old veteran now has an ERA of 2.64 in June and lowered his season-long number to 3.89 with the performance. Gray took advantage of the struggling Royals lineup that is depleted from the loss of Salvador Perez (thumb) to move to 4-3 on the season. His next start is expected to be Sunday against the Mets, where he will be defending his newly achieved winning record.
