With Matt Duffy optioned to the minors, Panik is expected to take on an everyday role at second base for the Giants. Panik has raised his average nearly 60 points, from .203 to .261, by notching eight hits in his last three games, and it seems he's convinced the coaching staff that he's ready for the everyday job. The 23-year-old is batting sixth Thursday, with Angel Pagan back atop the order and Hunter Pence in the two-hole.

Panik went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored in a 7-4 win over the Brewers on Tuesday. Wednesday was the third multi-hit game in a row for Panik, who has earned a regular job playing second base and batting second for the Giants versus right-handed pitching. The rookie's average has jumped from .203 to .261 since the beginning of August.

Joe Panik left Tuesday's game versus the Phillies with a sprained right ankle. He grounded out in his lone plate appearance before exiting. The Giants should update Panik's status after the game. He was replaced at second base by Ehire Adrianza.

Joe Panik finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored in a win over the Padres on Sunday. Panik had an RBI double in the third inning. The second baseman has multi-hit games in three of his last six starts, pulling his average up to .257 after a rough first week in the big leagues. Remarkably, his two runs scored were his first in 12 games since being promoted.

Joe Panik had a rough day at the plate in Sunday's loss to the Reds, going hitless in three at-bats. The rookie second baseman has struggled since his promotion, slashing a meager .174/.240/.217 in his first 23 at-bats. He's likely to continue getting playing time at second base, but should be irrelevant outside of NL-only formats.

Joe Panik finished 2-for-4 with an RBI double in his first major league start on Sunday. Panik kept his cool in his first major league start -- it wasn't his first game after he walked as a pinch hitter on Saturday -- slapping a single in the fifth inning before lashing his run-scoring double in the ninth. The second baseman will likely continue to show doubles power with little more, and can be forgotten about outside of NL-only leagues.

Giants purchased the contract of INF Joe Panik from Triple-A Fresno. Panik, the 29th overall pick in the 2011 MLB Amateur Draft, has registered a promising .321/.382/.447 batting line in 74 games this season at the Triple-A level. He could see regular playing time at second base for San Francisco and may be worth a try in NL-only fantasy leagues. Panik doesn't have enough speed or power to carry significant value in standard mixed formats.

Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that the Giants are calling up prospect infielder Joe Panik. The Giants have yet to make an official announcement. Panik, 23, is batting .321/.382/.447 with five home runs and 45 RBI over 74 games this season in Triple-A. The opportunity is there for playing time at second base, so he should be worth owning in NL-only leagues.
