Mauer is out of the lineup Sunday against the Nationals, LaVelle Neal of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mauer will just be taking a rest day for Sunday's matinee, giving way to Byung-ho Park at first base. The longtime Twin has looked great to start the season with a .328 average over 64 at-bats, but has still been a subpar source of power at first base, compiling only five extra-base hits to date.

Mauer ended the week with a .400 batting average to go with a home run. He now has posted multi-hit games in three of his first six contests.

Mauer hit his first homer of the season as part of a 2-for-4 evening Thursday against the Orioles.
EDGE Analysis
His first-inning long ball got the Twins started on the right foot, but they weren't able to get much thereafter. Considering Mauer's never topped 11 homers since his outlier 2009, we can't expect more than about that number this year. A career .313 hitter, he also saw his average decline into unhelpful territory over the past two seasons, leaving Mauer with fairly little fantasy appeal outside AL-only formats at this point.

Mauer went 1-for-1 with two walks in Wednesday's spring training win over Boston. He's hitting .286 (4-for-14) with three walks in seven games this spring.
EDGE Analysis
Mauer has experimented with using sun glasses after he experienced blurred vision at the plate at times last season. Mauer hasn't been the same hitter since suffering a concussion in 2013. Mauer was hitting .323 with an .873 OPS in his career before suffering a concussion in August 2013, and has hit just .270 with a .725 OPS since. Mauer's command of the strike zone has slipped the past two seasons as he was near career lows at drawing walks and near career highs in strikeouts and swinging at pitches out of the zone. Mauer drawing walks in spring training games could be a good sign as a result.

Mauer will try hitting with sunglasses for the first time during spring training in an attempt to improve his pitch tracking, Brian Murphy of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
Although Mauer hasn't had a concussion since 2013, he has still experienced blurred vision at the plate from time to time. "There are so many different symptoms. For me it was lighting, I couldn't really pick up the ball. It was blurry at times. Where I am here versus last year at this time, I can tell my workouts are better," Mauer stated in an interview. The 32-year-old hit .248/.316/.354 in day games and .276/.352/.396 in night games in 2015, so it appears this move does have potential to help him improve at the dish in 2016.

Mauer isn't in the lineup Sunday against the Royals, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mauer doesn't receive many days off, but he'll get one Sunday along with many of the other Twins regulars following the team's elimination from playoff contention. Kennys Vargas will receive the start at first base in his place, batting fifth.

Mauer went 2-for-5 with his 10th homer and two runs scored in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Indians.
EDGE Analysis
Ten homers is about as much as you can expect in a given season from Mauer at this point in his career, with that outlier of 28 from back in 2009 feeling like it was about a million years ago. Despite the "milestone" of double-digit homers, his steady decline continues, as Mauer's sitting on a new career high in strikeouts, while his .341 OBP is more than 50 points under his career average.

Mauer went 3-for-5 with a double in Monday's win over Detroit to extend his streak of reaching base to 34 games.
EDGE Analysis
Mauer is hitting .292/.376/.400 in his last 34 games. He's having the worst season of his career at the plate with a career low .719 OPS despite being on track for the most games and plate appearances in his career. At least he's finishing the season on a hot streak.

Mauer is not in the lineup Friday against the Astros, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mauer has been in the lineup everyday since August 3, so it's likely just a regular day of rest for the first baseman. Trevor Plouffe will take over at first in his stead, while Eduardo Nunez draws the start at third base.

Mauer went 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI in Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Rays.
EDGE Analysis
Mauer is still certainly capable of turning in occasional productive outings such as Wednesday's performance, in spite of his overall regression at the plate over the last two seasons. The veteran was a key part of Wednesday's victory, singling in the go-ahead run in the seventh inning to break a 2-2 deadlock. While he is hitting a full 45 points below his career average of .314 this season, Wednesday's game was Mauer's fifth multi-hit outing of August and third in his last seven games.
